The early vote: Signs of GOP passion
Politico ^ | 24 Oct 2010 | MOLLY BALL

Just over a week before Election Day, signs of widespread Republican enthusiasm are apparent in the early-voter data, including in some places with highly competitive statewide races. Yet at the same time, for Democrats there are promising data in numerous states suggesting that the idea of a devastating turnout gap may be overblown.

POLITICO surveyed early voting through Saturday in 20 states, and in 14 of the 15 that have voter registration by party, the GOP's early turnout percentage is running ahead of the party's share of statewide voter registration — whether measured against 2006 or 2008, when President Barack Obama's campaign led to a surge in Democratic voter registration. As a result, Republicans say they're turning the tables on the Democratic dominance of early voting that paved the way for Obama's victory in 2008 — and that independents' lean toward the GOP this year will do the rest.

"We don't expect to win early voting, but any lead at all is shocking at this point and a testament to the incredible enthusiasm amongst Republicans."

I completed my absent voter ballot.

I'm putting two (2) stamps on it. (The CA ballot is a tad heavy, and I don't want to take any chances).

I'm mailing it tomorrow at the post office.

In over 40 years of voting (without ever missing a vote) I have never, ever been this invigorated, motivated or animated about an election.

I can also tell you another thing. Any Repubs that voted for Obama have figured him and his buddies out and have come home AND have brought a lot of Dems with them. It is foolish for the Dems to think that every one of those early Dem votes are for their guy. I think they are going to be shocked to find out that a ton of Dems went against their party. Ala: Scott Brown!

IOW, the Dems are in for a royal butt-kicking!

I love the feeling that going to the polls on election day gives me. I consider it almost a religious experience. But this time I took no chances on being sick, having to travel, etc., so I did early voting on Tuesday.

I remember in 2008 when the GOP was leading in most races then in the last hour the Dems come out of nowhere and took the election. Always wondered how much of that was due to voter fraud?

A sickening feeling in 2008. Absolutely sickening. I hope to God it is not repeated.

Me too, I love voting on the day.

“Me too, I love voting on the day.”

Same thing. I avoid early voting, there are way too many Democrat workers. I like the feeling of marking my vote and putting it directly into the ballot box!

I have never, ever been this invigorated, motivated or animated about an election.

So why not show up on election day to be sure your vote gets counted not lost, and is in the original vote totals, not stored to away to be manipulated and argued over should a race go to a recount?

Very true, most Republicans vote on election day.

The Democrats usually vote early.

If we are matching them on early voting, it looks like we are going to overwhelm them on Nov.2.

Reasonable question.

Travel plans had me out of town for this particular election day when I sent for the absent voter ballot.
