... WET AND LOCALLY WINDY WEATHER TONIGHT INTO MONDAY...
MOISTURE ENTRAINED FROM THE REMNANTS OF TYPHOON MEGI OVER THE WEST PACIFIC WILL MOVE OVER SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA TONIGHT THROUGH MONDAY. A WEAK DISTURBANCE EMBEDDED IN STRENGTHENING NORTHWEST FLOW ALOFT WILL HELP LIFT OUR ALREADY DEEP MOIST LAYER TO PRODUCE AREAS OF RAIN OVER AND WEST OF THE MOUNTAINS TONIGHT INTO MONDAY. SHOWERS WILL TAPER OFF MONDAY AFTERNOON AND MAINLY BE OVER THE MOUNTAINS.
RAINFALL TOTALS SHOULD RANGE FROM AROUND ONE TENTH OF AN INCH ALONG THE COAST... TO ABOUT THREE QUARTERS OF AN INCH ON COASTAL MOUNTAIN SLOPES. HOWEVER... AMOUNTS CLOSE TO AN INCH ARE POSSIBLE WHERE OROGRAPHIC LIFT IS MAXIMIZED. THE SNOW LEVEL WILL BE ABOVE 8000 FEET.
WINDS ALOFT AND ONSHORE FLOW WILL CAUSE LOCAL STRONG GUSTY WINDS IN THE MOUNTAINS AND DESERTS LATE TODAY THROUGH MONDAY. MOST WIND GUSTS WILL BE 25 TO 35 MPH BUT THERE WILL BE ISOLATED GUSTS TO NEAR 50 MPH... MAINLY IN THE HIGH DESERTS.
THE RAIN WILL MAKE ROADS SLICK AND MOTORISTS SHOULD USE EXTRA CAUTION. FOG WILL LOCALLY REDUCE VISIBILITY TO LESS THAN A QUARTER OF A MILE AT TIMES IN THE MOUNTAINS. THE STRONG GUSTY WINDS IN THE MOUNTAINS AND DESERTS WILL MAKE DRIVING DIFFICULT... ESPECIALLY FOR MOTORISTS WITH HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES.

Where was TYPHOON MEGI ??
fwiw....and we thought the rain and clouds were over for awhile.
Tis the season.
Just north of you, in the Sacramento/San Joaquin Valley, tradition holds that the first rain in the high country usually occurs about the 3rd week in October and the basin is shrouded in Tule fog for 90 days, starting about November 15.
Stared rainy yesterday in Northern California.
South China Sea
Small amounts on the Freeways turn them into the equivalent of icy streets....that is the deal.
To amplify Ernest_at_the_Beach’s point:
A tenth of an inch is enough to raise all the oils and slick dust on the freeways to the surface, but not enough to rinse them clean.
The first light rain of the season is much more dangerous than a good rain.
Tork_on_the_Mud Flats of Humboldt Bay reporting in Sir...
Rain gauge showed 2/10 inch at 10:30 last night. At 6 this morning it held 2 3/4 inches and still a lite rain is falling
Depending on the reporting site, we have close to or over 1 inch of rain.
The good news is the Drought Nazis really don’t have a job again.
One of our local Drought Nazis was on her soap box last week re water conservation.
I asked her why she like winter floods and pushed an agenda that created/left too much water in our lakes/streams/rivers.
She came close to stroking out.
You can bet the fishing on our northcoast rivers are blown out for awhile. My grandson went deer hunting this morning over near Hayfork. Hope he looks out for rocks on the roads...
It's been raining in SoCal for a couple of weeks now. It safe to drive normally in the rain, but people are still too scared of water.
I’ll say, driving at 45 in the far left lane is the pits
Around here....4 inches in an hour. Rolls off our backs....
4 inches in an hour in SoCal...and their world will stop.
Weather reports. How quaint.
And that's not including RAINSTORMS. Which have rain and usually strong winds.
And in the winter cold white stuff (SNOW) falls from the sky and accumulates. And again this is almost always accompanied by strong winds.
Oh and sometimes we even have THUNDERSNOW! Snowstorms with thunder and lightning and wind! Horror!
I'm just giving you a little grief....:-)
Over the last two weeks we have had 1.75 inches of rain here in Sage. Lots of fog & drizzle with short sudden down pours.
Ah. Thanks.
We had a wet winter a few years ago and one of the recording stations up above downtown LA had 90 inches....and it all rolled downhill!
Created a heck of a mess.
and Gasguet mtn in NW Cal can get 12 feet (144”) of rain a year. The Kings range south of Eureka can double that...
