JERUSALEM (JTA) -- Israeli Sephardic leader Rabbi Ovadia Yosef in his weekly Saturday night sermon said that non-Jews exist to serve Jews.
Goyim were born only to serve us. Without that, they have no place in the world; only to serve the People of Israel, he said during a public discussion of what kind of work non-Jews are allowed to perform on Shabbat.
"Why are gentiles needed? They will work, they will plow, they will reap. We will sit like an effendi and eat," he said to some laughter.
Yosef, the spiritual leader of the Shas Party and the former chief Sephardi rabbi of Israel, also said that the lives of non-Jews are protected in order to prevent financial loss to Jews.
"With gentiles, it will be like any person: They need to die, but God will give them longevity. Why? Imagine that ones donkey would die, theyd lose their money. This is his servant. Thats why he gets a long life, to work well for this Jew, said the rabbi, who recently turned 90.
An audio recording of some of the rabbi's remarks was broadcast on Israel's Channel 10.
The American Jewish Committee condemned the rabbi's remarks in a statement issued Monday.
"Rabbi Yosefs remarks -- suggesting outrageously that Jewish scripture asserts non-Jews exist to serve Jews -- are abhorrent and an offense to human dignity and human equality, said AJC Executive Director David Harris. "Judaism first taught the world that all individuals are created in the divine image, which helped form the basis of our moral code. A rabbi should be the first, not the last, to reflect that bedrock teaching of our tradition."

" . . . he said during a public discussion of what kind of work non-Jews are allowed to perform on Shabbat.Jews hire gentiles to perform duties on the sabbath that Jews are not religiously allowed to perform.
From what I have read from other sources is the same as above. That the discussion centered around Non-Jews working for Jews during Shabbos and during various holidays. Heck, we always had Non-Jews working for us during the High Holidays when we couldn't work. Would like to hear the entire discussion before reaching a final conclusion.

Does this guy's insane bigotry represent mainstream Jewish thought? Does it represent even a significant minority? Does silence give assent?
Stop trying to prove your ignore/lazyness in an atempt to lead people with rhetorical questions. If you did a simple web search, you would learn that in the last week, Yosef has been condemned by virtually everyone. He is a senile old man.

That kind of Scriptural analysis is either classic British Israelitism or the more sinister ideology known as Christian Identity. Either way, deeply suspect. Oh well this is just 'special'. Where did you get your credentials to judge? Now since I don't have at the ready the classic or sinister ideology of your suspect entities I have NO clue if either knows what the Heavenly Father instructed Moses to pen. God is judge and he sure did not appoint reactionaries to accuse when they themselves demonstrate they could care less about what HE had to say.

He might, for instance, say bad things about gentiles. But he would strenuously rule that Jews should treat gentiles with the same respect, honesty, and charity they would treat Jews. Sounds like a perfectly lovely hypocrite bigot

You saying wheres the Jews condemning him is obviously wrong. "Where are the Jews condemning him?" is a question. It's very difficult for a question to be wrong. Think about that for a moment, and resist the temptation to confuse a question with an insinuation.
In any case, thank you.

Just a little insider information regarding this "rabbi" and the Shas party he represents.
1. The Shas party are basically a niche welfare party for a subgroup of Orthodox Jewish people who don't work, don't serve in the military, and generally suck off the public dole at the expense of actual productive Israeli citizens.
2. The Shas party are hated by most self-respecting Israelis. I despise them, myself.
3. The Shas party does, however, vote in a block. Israeli politics are extremely fractured and being consistently unified permits the Shas to exert more power than their numbers would otherwise suggest.
4. This shmuck is NOT a respected rabbi in Israel. Citing him for authority would be like citing the Reverand Jesse Jackson or Reverand Jerimiah Wright for views on Protestant Christianity. Note the condemnation of his comments by much more mainstream Rabbis and groups in the article.
5. He is not even talking about what people in America consider non-Jewish people. He is talking about any Israeli that does not share his lay-about-scum-bag-pretend-to-be-pious-while-stealing lifestyle. The Shas-variety of Orthodox dismiss Jewish Israelis as "goy" who must work for them so they can "study the torah" (what they really do is screw around, run scams, sell drugs, and be generally worthless).
6. The theology he is twisting for his evil, bigoted, purposes relates to each people having a different purpose in the service of G-d --- Jewish people supposed to be serving as priests and examples, the Levites, in particular. The corollary to this is Jewish people would serve non-Jewish people 6 days out of the week (6 for 1, not a bad trade), but no one ever wants to talk about that part, as it fits neither the lay-about agenda of the Jewish supremicists, nor the race-baiting agenda of the anti-semites.

Thank you.
The Shas-variety of Orthodox dismiss Jewish Israelis as "goy"
That is a truly unexpected bit of information, and puts "rabbi" Jackass in perspective.
The theology he is twisting ...
Again, thank you ... your explanation makes far more sense than the stuff in the original post.

I shouldn't be angy at you. You simply seem to havea reading comprehension problem. I said of R. Yosef "Yosef has been condemned by virtually everyone. He is a senile old man."
I try not to get angy at people for thier illness or weakness.

.....Reverand Jerimiah Wright ...... Thank you very much as these words reminded me exactly of BamBamKennedy's preacher and the exact methodology the BamBam's have done to US. We mere nothings are put here to 'serve' them.

Thank you for the explanation. For some reason I have never heard of this group and I thought I was pretty informed on all things Jewish. Makes sense that the 10% rule would get distorted out of proportion, human nature being what it is.

I pretty well understood who this guy represented. Frankly, I really don't think they do all that well on the "study Torah" front either; else he wouldn't behave like this. Pretty crappy of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency to represent him as a generic "Sephardi."

You are very welcome.
Israeli politics are very, very confusing.
The power these marginal turds have is why I actually prefer the US winner-take-all approach of elections -— the nutty margins can have influence, but not as much as in parlamentary.
