JERUSALEM (JTA) -- Israeli Sephardic leader Rabbi Ovadia Yosef in his weekly Saturday night sermon said that non-Jews exist to serve Jews.
“Goyim were born only to serve us. Without that, they have no place in the world; only to serve the People of Israel,” he said during a public discussion of what kind of work non-Jews are allowed to perform on Shabbat.
"Why are gentiles needed? They will work, they will plow, they will reap. We will sit like an effendi and eat," he said to some laughter.
Yosef, the spiritual leader of the Shas Party and the former chief Sephardi rabbi of Israel, also said that the lives of non-Jews are protected in order to prevent financial loss to Jews.
"With gentiles, it will be like any person: They need to die, but God will give them longevity. Why? Imagine that one’s donkey would die, they’d lose their money. This is his servant. That’s why he gets a long life, to work well for this Jew,” said the rabbi, who recently turned 90.
An audio recording of some of the rabbi's remarks was broadcast on Israel's Channel 10.
The American Jewish Committee condemned the rabbi's remarks in a statement issued Monday.
"Rabbi Yosef’s remarks -- suggesting outrageously that Jewish scripture asserts non-Jews exist to serve Jews -- are abhorrent and an offense to human dignity and human equality,” said AJC Executive Director David Harris. "Judaism first taught the world that all individuals are created in the divine image, which helped form the basis of our moral code. A rabbi should be the first, not the last, to reflect that bedrock teaching of our tradition."
By this remark and your reference to the "sons of Cain" I see that you are one of those "identity" loons.
HOW strange for a protestant to be explaining literal WORDS to the followers of 'oral traditions'.
Yeah, G-d told the Israelites to keep time by the moon but to always keep Passover in the spring and then didn't give them instructions on when to add the leap month! After all, He had to commit everything to writing so Protestants could win their argument with Catholics twenty five hundred years later!

Not everything was written down. I can't help Protestantism's quarrel with the Catholic Church; that has nothing to do with this. You keep ignoring that the laws of the calendar, laws of ritual slaughter, and how certain Temple rituals were performed were not written down but handed down orally from G-d to Moses and passed down from generation to generation. Go argue with a Catholic if you want to debate "sola scriptura."
Are you even aware of the fact that the Written Torah contains only a string of consonants and that the vowels and punctuation are part of the Oral Tradition you refuse to believe in because of your quarrel with Catholicism? I'd like to see you read it correctly without those things.

The Heavenly Father does NOTHING that He does not first WARN the intended recipients of His actions. He NOBODY else selected/elected Moses to pen for what HE intended those who LOVE HIM to read with understanding as to what HIS plan was/is/and will be.
YOU do have the God given right to serve whom ever your heart desires. I happen to think that IF I am to demonstrate my LOVE I ought to at least take the time to find out exactly what He had those HE elected to put into writing what HIS plan is.

The 'oral tradition' stems from Babylon, which literally means confusion which the Heavenly Father states HE is not the author.

The controversy is NOT about missing vowels and punctuation left out of the Hebrew, but carry on.
Maybe if you try real hard you can find somebody who reads with understanding exactly what these English words literally mean in the Hebrew.

“Silence”?! Even in the article, there’s a Jewish organization that condemned him. You saying “where’s the Jews condemning him” is obviously wrong.
This is rediculously rare in the Jewish community, and it’s always condemned by the most prominent when words of the comments comes out.
Mainstream Judaism doesn’t have this idea. Notice that he doesn’t quote scripture when he says this; neither Torah nor Talmud or anything else. He’s just saying it from his own mouth.
It’s more like because of Jesus we are all Jewish.

Rabbi Yosef has been saying other dumb stuff, he doesnt represent the Jewish people. I dont like his views on a lot of important issues. He may have dementia.
Suddenly this makes a lot more sense. I was thinking that the “rabbi” and I had learned from entirely different Torahs.
