Not Quite Down and Out (NM-Completely Bogus campaign ad by Dems in NM-1 race)
The Albuquerque Journal ^ | October 21, 2010 | Michael Coleman

Posted on 10/23/2010 6:10:14 PM PDT by CedarDave

When 69-year-old Liz Sumruld looked into a television camera for a Rep. Martin Heinrich campaign ad and said she "couldn't get by" without her $530 monthly Social Security check, she never dreamed her own lifestyle would become an issue in the 1st Congressional District campaign.

But that's what happened when word trickled out that she and her husband, Tommy, own a South Valley home with an indoor swimming pool and a garage full of classic cars.

Barela contends that Sumruld's claim in the Heinrich TV ad that she "couldn't get by" without her $530 Social Security check is deceitful.

"It's deplorable that Martin Heinrich used a 69-year old woman to misrepresent herself to broadcast blatant lies," Barela told the Journal on Wednesday. "This fits the pattern of deceitful ads which misrepresent my background and position on issues."

~~snip~~

Liz Sumruld said she and her husband, a retired PNM electrician, live on $45,000 annually, including his pension and both of their Social Security checks. The median household income in New Mexico is $43,790. The national median household income is $49,945.

The Sumrulds said they purchased their home 47 years ago for $13,500, and they own it free and clear.

Lie, cheat, steal. The Demonrats will do anything to win elections. The only thing we haven't seen them do here in NM yet is have SEIU register thousands of false illegals as they did in AZ and CO. But we still have ten days to go.

They could get George Soros, William Buffett, Bill Gates, Peter Lewis and Oprah Winfrey to discuss how cutting SS checks would harm their lifestyles.

Maybe that $530 is her “crazy money”. Or maybe her beer money.

Those classic cars ought to pay for quite a few prescriptions.

The ABQ Journal this morning endorsed Barela (and all other NM Republicans) for Congress. See:

Tomorrow the Journal will endorse the candidate for governor. I hope its Martinez though Denish has been talking more specifics for job creation recently. I will post the story when I have it.

Thanks. I think they’ll go with Martinez. They may catch a lot of flak if they don’t.
