About the author:
Jonathan Alter is an award-winning columnist, television analyst and author. Since 1991, Alter has written a widely-acclaimed Newsweek column that examines politics, media and social and global issues. For more than a decade, he has worked as a contributing correspondent to NBC News. His 2006 book, "The Defining Moment: FDR's Hundred Days and the Triumph of Hope," was a national bestseller. Alter is also an originator and author of Newsweek's "Conventional Wisdom Watch," which uses up, down and sideways arrows to measure and lampoon the news. As an editor, he helps shape the magazine's overall news coverage. To me, what's more interesting is not the article itself, but the understanding of who the author is, and on what capacity he is related to Newsweek.

Alter needs to be put on 24/7 suicide watch. The guy is losing it and may blow at any second.

The depressed Democratic base needs to ask itself some questions: Do women want more representatives who oppose abortion? Do Hispanics want to see immigration reform postponed? Do young voters want college loans slashed? If they dont, theyll set aside whatever valid grievances they may have with Obama and mobilize. "My God, Margo - did you see this? We've got to DO something! Organize a Democrat fund-raiser, drive the elderly to the polls, SOMETHING!" "Todd, what did I tell you about using 'God' in a sentence? It's 'Gaia'! And why should WE do anything? That's the government's job!"

GOP’s agenda stopped!? How about the commie-in-chief’s agenda? or the agenda a nancy and harry?

A vote for the GOP is a vote for lower taxes.
A vote for the GOP is a vote for an immigration crackdown.
A vote for the GOP is a vote control spending.
A vote for the GOP is a vote to get tough in War on Terror.
Please think about this before voting.

And NPR fired Juan Williams?
Sheesh! There is one issue that has sunk the democrats and that is health care. In spite of lossing Ted Kennedys seat on the issue(and the senate super-majority) Obama pressed on forcing a soluition that pleased neither left or right. Now he(and more directly the rest of the democrats) will pay.

I love it when Alter is foaming at the mouth, spewing hatred. There's a certain satisfaction to the scene.
Put the Newsweek staff in a cage and let them always remind us of who liberals really are.

Hey Alter, your magazine`s poll just reported a huge surge in popularity for Obama and the dems. So what`s to worry for, since.... oh, it was a SHAM poll..ahhh, I see. Well then... back to begging.

So basically if Republicans win we’ll be dying like animals in the streets? Unburied bodies be stacked 10 feet high and flies will devour the living after feeding on the dead..
The end of civilization as we know it will happen due to these crazy GOP policies (possibly) cutting government, I see.

Nothing but the spouting of liberal marxist whores. I’m for pulling the plug and letting all the socialists, marxists, communists, democratic socialists, leninists and all their ilk sink to the bottom of Lake Superior. Hell, most of them can even spell that. They and all their followers shoud learn to get a job, work to their highest potential and strive to do more; instead of whining about not getting enough because they didn’t do what it takes to get ahead in this world.

I can't tell if this Alter piece is supposed to be news, opinion, or a 'Rat pep talk - not that
Newsweek cares.
Alter missed at least a couple of the 'Rats' standard ranting points: he said nothing about Republicans being racist or homophobic. Well, better luck next time around, Jonathan. (Sarc.)

Do women want more representatives who oppose abortion? If recent polling is any indication, actually, yes they do.

Alter’s mother was a lefty Dem alderman or councilman in Chicago.
