Delaware's Decision (Pete DuPont weighs in!)
WSJ ^ | 10/21/10 | Pete DuPont

Posted on 10/23/2010 2:24:07 AM PDT by Daisyjane69

Everyone in this state knew that Rep. Mike Castle was going to be our next U.S. senator. He had served as a state legislator, lieutenant governor (during my second term as governor), governor and nine-term congressman. He was well ahead in the primary and general-election polls. But in the Republican primary on Sept. 14, Christine O'Donnell won by a bit more than 3,500 votes.

As everyone in Delaware also knew, New Castle County Executive Chris Coons, the Democratic Party's Senate candidate, had no chance of beating Mr. Castle. But he was quickly some 15 points ahead of Ms. O'Donnell.

It’s nice, but does it add up to an endorsement?

He could be excused for allowing people to THINK he endorses O’Donnell, but he never comes out and says so.

To me this piece is an endorsement-plus. He says that it’s nationally important that Delawareans vote for her.

I guess it is as close as the Country Club GOP can come to an endorsement.

However, I do think that it gives a balanced view of the two and O'Donnell is clearly the better choice.

Let's hope that help from Palin and others can get her over the finish line.

Just another lousy RINO. In a previous article on WSJ, he actually wrote that America would not be the sorry state we are in, if only SWMNBN were President. This from a man who spoke so eloquently about fiscal responsibility at the Wilmington, DE TEA party.

If Christine O’Donnell somehow loses this election, it will because of the RINOs who won’t lift a finger to help her. First, Castle won’t even mention her name, prompting the RINO party to follow suit. Now comes Pierre DuPont who doesn’t endorse her.

Mark my words, after the election, there will be a purge. Tom Ross and his fellow travelers will be gone. All of Christine’s supporters need to be ready; get appointed/invited to the next state convention in Dover. We are going to raise holy Hades.

GO CHRISTINE!!

I read the whole article and thought it was pretty close to an endorsement.

There is no question about where these candidate stand.

The democrats are not running on the issues, they’re running on attacking their opponent personally,

But having said that, we have Christine, a serious candidate who is right on the money on all the issues in my book, running against a guy is who wrong.

If she loses, then I’d have to say it’s because Castle and the others refused to endorse her.

I ask him and those who voted for Castle, to put your wounded ego aside, and in these closing days, PLEASE endorse Christine. PLEASE.

More republicans voted at the DE primaries than democrats. We can win this.

Any Freepers in DE out there who can give us an idea of how this might go?

I don’t regret for a minute getting Castle out of there.

Perhaps a Delawarian would weigh in on this.

I know it’s too much too hope for, but do you suppose there is any chance DuPont could broker a summit with Castle and O’Donnell? This would be in the hopes that both DuPont and Castle would give Christine a surprise, joint endorsement...one week out?

Any connections out there, Delaware FReepers?

On Election Day the question is: Who will help correct the negative policies that have hurt our nation over the past few years? One of the candidates supports almost all of them; the other favors policies that would make us more successful in the future. Two weeks from now we have a very important election in America's First State that could change the direction of our country.

He shows the differences between the two and makes it clear who he is for.

She Who Must Not Be Named (Hint a cabinet officer who was a NY Senator and is married to a former President)

My fingers would burn to type her name.

What a weasel! Another gutless RINO without the backbone to endorse O’Donnell.

This sounds like an endorsement.

I don’t think Castle giving her an ‘endorsement’ at this point would be worth a bucket of warm spit. We all know where the guy stands and those of us who voted against him in the primary don’t care what he thinks and his rabid fans are too upset by our ‘betrayal’ to come over and vote for ‘the witch’. They’ll leave that spot on the ballot blank and smugly say “I told you so” when she falls short.

I don’t see that happening. However, I really believe she is closing & has a real shot. Coons has backed out on the last debate & his ads have gone negative. But it’s the same crap the’ve been throwing at her for 5 months. It’s weak & people don’t care.
