Hormone treatment after menopause, already known to increase the risk of breast cancer, also makes it more likely that the cancer will be advanced and deadly, a study finds.
Women who took hormones and developed breast cancer were more likely to have cancerous lymph nodes, a sign of more advanced disease, and were more likely to die from the disease than were breast cancer patients who had never taken hormones.
The increased risks were relatively small and are not fully understood. But previous research has found that hormone treatment can cause delays in diagnosis by increasing breast density, making tumors harder to see on mammograms. Delayed diagnosis may increase the risk of death.
It is also possible that hormones may feed the growth of some breast cancers or the blood vessels that tumors need to grow and spread.
The treatment studied was the most commonly prescribed hormone replacement pill, Prempro, which contains estrogens from horse urine and a synthetic relative of the hormone progesterone.
Many doctors assume that women can safely take hormones for four or five years for menopause symptoms like hot flashes and night sweats, said Dr. Rowan T. Chlebowski, the first author of an article published this week in The Journal of the American Medical Association and an oncologist who treats breast cancer patients at the Harbor-U.C.L.A. Medical Center in Torrance, Calif.
“I don’t think you can say that now,” he said. “I know some people have to take it because they can’t function, but the message now is that you really should try...”

During the menopause of The WWII generation they were handing out Premarin like M&Ms in October, and most of our moms did great and were much better off than their WWI gen mothers.
If this stuff was THAT bad, between Premarin and the first-and secondhand smoke the entire generation should not have survived the Reagan Administration.

The only thing that causes cancer is FAKE hormones taken orally.
Taking bioidentical hormones, natural ones, using a non-oral delivery system (topical, vaginal, sub-Q, etc), not only will NOT give you cancer but it can prevent cancer. It also will give you well-being and your youthful drive again.
This study is going to cause millions of women (and men?) to be miserable for NOTHING. The parts of the study getting the headlines are so deceiving! Natural hormones non-orally do NOT cause cancer. The media SUCKS!

I learned a lot from Drs. Blaylock (excellent nutrition advice from an ex-surgeon and great conservative) and Mercola (also great nutritional advice, somewhat nutty but wise too).
Suzanne Somers’ last two books are all basically “written” by doctors who eschew conventional medicine and go for what truly works and promotes health. I highly recommend them. I believe the previous one has some great bioidentical hormone info, but the most recent one does too, because it is all about cancer. Do NOT think about her playing Chrissy on Three’s Company. Read the books; the doctors in there are full of life or death info. I am serious. If you know anyone with cancer, get them the most recent book. it could save their life.
