There are also a few Garands chambered for 7.62x51/.308 Winchester.

From Korea?

From the gunsmith in my case. My Garand shoots .308 because that's the way I wanted it set up. Not sure that the advantage is great, but I have a couple of .308 rifles and it is nice to be somewhat standardized.

Not necessarily; I had one in college “many years ago” that was chambered 7.62x51, made by International Harvester.

“You can never have to many Garands.”

Yes you can, no individual should ever own more than 5281 M-1 Garand rifles.

The 30 Carbine cartridge with FMJ bullets is not very effective against heavily clothed two-legged critters. This was a complaint against the M1 carbine in the Korean conflict. However, use of jacketed soft point bullets changes the effectiveness significantly for the better (ref.: http://m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=19956). With JSP ammo, the M1 carbine should perform very well for home defense at distances up to 100+ yards.

call your congress critters on this asap and get it on their minds that this is something that they will be held to account for if it ‘dies’ in committee.

just got off the phone w/ Johnson’s (TX-3) staff.

will wait to see what he does.

I haven’t had much luck with the CMP. I tried to get a weapon through them about ten years ago. One of the requirements was that I belong to a sanctioned shooting club and the only one in my area was run by the local police department. They wouldn’t let non-police officers join. I would really love to get a Garand and the local stores are all overpriced.
