Jury in place for Chandra Levy murder trial in DC (concern over bias against MS-13 gang members?)

WASHINGTON—After a week of jury selection, a panel of 12 women and four men has been chosen to serve on the Chandra Levy murder trial. The panel includes four alternates. Ingmar Guandique, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador, is charged with the attempted sexual assault and murder of Levy back in 2001. The Washington intern's disappearance made headlines when she was romantically linked to then-Rep. Gary Condit, D-Calif. Condit was once a suspect but police no longer believe he had anything to do with Levy's death. While the defense had worried pretrial publicity would contaminate the jury pool, it turned out that jurors' preconceived notions about gang members and illegal aliens proved to be a bigger impediment. Opening statements are set for Monday. Condit has said through a spokesman that he expects to testify.

This is taking jury nullification to a ridiculous extreme. Who doesn't have preconceived notions about gang members and illegal aliens?

Its like the prosecution having worries about jurors with preconceived notions about career criminals.

How do they end up with so many women on the jury?

“How do they end up with so many [12] women on the jury?”

80% of Washington D.C. males are convicted felons, and the other 20% are in rehab.

So the only evidence on this guy they have is some ridiculous confessions he made to fellow jailhouse inmates. And then he said he only killed Levy because Condit asked/paid him to do it. They have NO incriminating evidence on the guy, no DNA...nada. Also, he was declared truthful in a lie detector test when asked if he killed Levy. He did attack two other female joggers around the same area Chandra was found but they both got away. How the hell that Levy, a heathly young strong woman is the only one who didn’t get away?

Meanwhile, Gary Condit has no record of where he was the entire day Chandra went missing, he lied and said he had an interview with a reporter later disavowed by that reporter, and supposedly Condit took a lie detector test, by his OWN polygrapher and disavowed by the DC police.

What’s interesting in this farce is that, supposedly they will be calling Condit to testify in this case.

How about that...a guy testifying against the guy being accused of YOUR murder.

Believe what you want about this case, Condit committed this crime and I doubt it will ever go to trial. If it does, Guandique will get off.

I know there will be commenters asserting about this pathetic fellows gang connection, his criminal past. I’m not going to argue with anybody about this case...it’s a joke. But I will read the comments with interest.

Believe what you will and I got a bridge to sell, cheap.

For Gary Condit, there was an upside to 9/11. It knocked him off the front page for a while.

Police enter Chandra Levy's apartment. The door was locked. There was no sign of a struggle. Everything (cosmetics, partly packed luggage, wallet, driver's license, credit cards, money, laptop computer, and cell phone) appeared to be there except her keys and a ring. There was a comforter on the floor near the apartment's entry door.

i always found her leaving the cellphone odd...

Yeah, I always called him the only American to benefit from 9/11.

I wasn’t a Blogger at the time but I followed the case closely. Now I’m aghast that they’re going to actually spend government money trying this poor schlub.

Although hey, maybe it’s a way to corner Condit, I dunno. Cause if I’m a defense attorney I’m trying to cast reasonable doubt to someone else and Condit is the most logical person.

Man, they’ve tracked Condit to Virginia that day...they could find no record of where he was all day...this a congress critter who normally have every minute clocked and scheduled.

Levy never met Condit with any form of identification, no cell phone. Her purse, identification and cell phone were found in her apartment that day. Her computer was found with search results for the exact area where her body was discovered. She’d talked to her Aunt on the telephone, telling her she had a big meeting that day and hoped to have great news later. A big meeting with someone in Rock Creek park we must suppose as that’s where she was searching for on her computer.

Guandique is in jail until 2012...he got ten years for attacking those other joggers...WHO GOT AWAY dear Lord, he didn’t murder them. guy’s a two bit criminal. I suppose he’s probably coming up for parole. The did charge him for Levy’s murder but I know those DC investigators don’t believe this guy did the crime.

Hey, I dunno, it should be interesting. But if I’m the defense I’m spending lots of time pointing to Condit.

Maybe that’s the plan...who knows? He’s supposed to be testifying or will be called to testify, so goes the scuttlebutt.

Nope! He had a meeting with the V.P. that day which concluded about the same time Shandra left her apartment.

FR knows!

You know, I think you’re right about the VP meeting. Man, it’s been a while.

but they did have phone calls from Virginia from him sometime that day....it’s on my mind.

FR has a good case against Condit. In fact, at one time his attorney Abby Hoffman tried to answer one of my posts on FR directly in a Press Conference. He failed. It was quite obvious.

Yeah, I got a wealth of information off of Freerepublic.

I wasn’t on this forum at the time but I’ve read a lot after the fact.

Let this case go to trial and it will bring that whole thing back before the public eye. As a True Crime afficiando, frankly, I’m looking forward to it.

I’ll believe it when I see it.

I don’t think Hillary Clinton shed a lot of tears that day when Barbara Olson crashed into the Pentagon, either.
