She said in an interview with The Associated Press that she filed the amended disclosure after her attorney realized the error. Candidates are required to list account values only in broad ranges, and O'Donnell said hers is worth between $1,000 and $15,000.
"It's not a lot of savings, but the reality is that a lot of people are hurting in this economy," she said.
O'Donnell, who is running against Democrat Chris Coons, maintains that her personal struggles help her understand the urgency of fixing the economy. She said she gave up most of her freelance public relations work during a previous run for Senate in 2008. After that election, she said, the economy had tanked and she struggled to get work.
"I sold everything I own. I'm not kidding," she said. "I sold jewelry. I liquidated all my assets. Now I'm living on my savings."
"This is why I say, 'I'm you,'" in a recent campaign ad, she added. "I know what it's like."
O'Donnell's financial past includes a tax lien from the IRS, a lawsuit from the university she attended over unpaid bills and a foreclosure action that she avoided by selling her house to her former campaign attorney before a sheriff's auction.
She acknowledges using campaign money to pay part of the rent on her current town house. Her attorney maintains someone with the Federal Election Commission approved the arrangement, although the commission's rules say candidates can't use campaign money for their mortgage or rent "even if part of the residence is being used by the campaign."

‘cause you can’t fix stupid.....and we got way to much of it here in the US.
She acknowledges using campaign money to pay part of the rent on her current town house.
Not great, but apparently she got permission from someone. She has a husband too so I don’t think that 15000 is all she is getting. I really wish we had another three months until the election (at least with this race)....she could really win this but she needs to be strong and not humble and kick Coons day after day. By humble, I mean stop saying that I don’t have savings because I am like everyone else. Say I am for a strong economy and here is how I am going to do it.
Why did you post such a bogus article by MSM hacks?
She’s not me. I wouldn’t have made the decisions she did to be in that situation.
A husband? She’s not married.
You've just made a lot of guys very happy with that news.
Really????? What the heck are wrong with men in Delaware???? lol. If I were single and living in Delaware....well never mind.....lol.
Sorry, but I have to post twice because I can’t believe an intelligent, classy lady like Christine is not married....unbelievable.
Her financial troubles started way before the recession.
She gets a job at the conservative organization and immediately buys a house. Being single, I would have rented for a year or two until I knew for sure about the job. But that’s just me. I like to be able to sleep at night.
Now, she lives in a house paid for in part with campaign donations.
This is the type of person that some people want to promote to the United States Senate? Not me. I expect a lot more from our candidates.
You're not advocating that Marxist Coons, are you?
I’m advocating better GOP candidates, of course.
>> This is the type of person that some people want to promote to the United States Senate? Not me. I expect a lot more from our candidates.<<
That kind of thinking is what got us the people we have in congress now. Hows that working out for you?
It is possible to have the same type of candidate who is successful in their perosnal life.
“Shes not me. I wouldnt have made the decisions she did to be in that situation”
I guess you would have prefered Castle who would have voted with the dimoKKKRATS 75% of the time. I see Christine as a big improvement over Castle and have donated to her campaign to back up my thoughts.
>>It is possible to have the same type of candidate who is successful in their personal life.<<
Perhaps it is, but nonetheless I have great respect for her in that she was entrepreneurial enough to strike out on her own as a consultant/advocate. She has experienced what it means to try to build a business with all the government intrusion and that experience plus her base of ethics and direction she wants to see this country go is what would get my vote.
I would much rather have someone with Christine’s experience, too, than someone who merely happened to win the lottery. I guess I’m sort of Jacksonian in that manner, as I believe regular people have just as much ability to lead as those who come from the right “pedigree”.
