Fox hands [Juan] Williams $2 million contract

Fox News moved swiftly to turn the controversy over Juan Williams’s firing to its advantage, offering him an expanded role and a new three-year contract Thursday morning in a deal that amounts to nearly $2 million, Matea Gold reports.

Roger Ailes took a jab at NPR in the process.

"Juan has been a staunch defender of liberal viewpoints since his tenure began at Fox News in 1997,” he said in a statement. “He’s an honest man whose freedom of speech is protected by Fox News on a daily basis.”

In his new role, Williams will appear more frequently on the network and have a regular column on FoxNews.com.

“I am having a senior moment and cant recall the guys name, but he had 30 people on the panel. All of them, and I mean ALL said that Juan Williams was mistreated by NPR.”

I have senior moments more and more - LOL. But the guy’s name is Frank Luntz, focus group master extraordinaire.

“I wonder if perhaps his conservative wife of many years and his politically active conservative son might have rubbed a bit also.”

WOW, thanks for posting that - I never knew. So there’s hope yet.

We surround them :-)

I think FNC should replace Hannity with Hannity & Williams.
Sean has kind of lost the plot on his own. Now he’s just the “centrist” between Glenn Beck on the Right and that dopey pinhead Ted Baxter on the Left.

Getting Hannity back into a debate format would bring his show renewed purpose.

I believe that Juan Williams was wronged for being fired by NPR. The comments he made were legitimate and shouldn’t even be considered controversial let alone a firing offense. I support Fox News Channel for standing behind Juan Williams.

I don’t agree with his opinions most of the time, but a new $2 million contract? Come on.

Good to see a liberal speaking out so forthrightly about the Muslim menace. Just when you thought they were all weanies.

I must honestly say it’s about the product line and production. Is it my bias, or is it very clear that Foxs is heads above everyone?

The quality of people and the shows are always superb.

Hannity, who gets under my skin alot esp his radio show, does not back down with anyone. He has anyone on his show...anyone...

I like this guy that hosts RedEye. Where did they find him? He’s great...

FOxs jumped at the chance to sign him now. His popularity may have soared in the coming weeks and he and his agent asking price with it....

We need honest debate. Juan has long offered one of the more sane left viewpoints. Good on Fox.

Now, for the childish part. I hope Juan and Fox use this to grind NPR into a worthless pile a dog mess.

I agree, I often find fault with Williams but at least he doesn’t often go over to the mad dog style of liberalism as exemplified by Ed Schultz and others on PMSNBC.

I suspect that Sir Juan may have had a wake up call and not be quite so sympathetic to he commie left after they showed him their true colors.

Juan did tell the Friends this morning something like--wow, I always thought the right wing was the close-minded group. Who knew?

GOOD!!!! At least a celebrity (but not us ordinary folks) can benefit from being labeled a member of the Bigot class!!!!

NPR depends both on our tax dollars and on the small contributions of many, many ordinary Americans. It’s toadying to the islamic enemy—and not even allowing its commentators to admit that they are our enemies—is intolerable!!!!

Juan Williams—of course—did not go so far as to say that islam is our enemy. And I doubt that anyone on NPR contradicted the lies of the media against the Orthodox Christian Serbs, or told the truth that the so-called “hooligans” who attacked the “gay pride” parade in Belgrade are actually Serbian patriots who were fighting EU/New Word Order oppression of Serbia.

But given the source of NPR’s income, we have the right to hear more than politically-correct propaganda from them. After all, MSNBC and CNN already spout the same propaganda, without taking any tax subsidies or listener contributions!!!!

This is not the first time Juan took heat from the liberals. He got quite a bit of flack after writing a book encouraging black men to man-up and support their families.

“You can’t lump them all together, such as the mention of Keith, Rachel, Ed et al.”

In the end, liberals are what they are, and it has nothing to do with what I say or do. I have heard silly, idiotic, liberal drivel spring from Juan’s mouth, and I don’t encounter him unless he happens to be a guest on something I listen to. A lot of liberals seem reasoned and thoughtful, as do many “moderate” Republicans, but the outcome of their reasoned thoughtfulness is never good. I wish Juan no ill will, and I don’t care about his arrangement with FOX, but I hope it isn’t a sign of things to come.

I do not consider Shep a newsman. He is a joke and should move to CNN or MSNBC. He would fit in much better there.
