Fox hands [Juan] Williams $2 million contract

Fox News moved swiftly to turn the controversy over Juan Williams’s firing to its advantage, offering him an expanded role and a new three-year contract Thursday morning in a deal that amounts to nearly $2 million, Matea Gold reports.

Roger Ailes took a jab at NPR in the process.

"Juan has been a staunch defender of liberal viewpoints since his tenure began at Fox News in 1997,” he said in a statement. “He’s an honest man whose freedom of speech is protected by Fox News on a daily basis.”

In his new role, Williams will appear more frequently on the network and have a regular column on FoxNews.com.

They aren’t fighting NPR, they are fighting CAIR. CAIR always wins.

I don’t like liberal-ing the place up; however, NPR needs a kick in the teeth and Ailes smited them mightily.

CPB, not just NPR needs to go. NPR is sustained by local public stations, which get money from the CPB. So NPR’s claim that only a small portion of their funding comes from the government is disingenuous. This LINK is to the OPB Budget Request to Congress.

They are asking for $630 million dollars in 2012.

They probably get other money from other grants. I would guess Dept of Education gives them $$$ for "childrens educational programs", etc.

Makes you proud to be a part of the “Fox Family.” While liberals scream about being the “tolerant” ones, conservatives quietly do the right thing.

In a conversation I had today with my liberal mother-in-law, she let me know that Bill O'Reilly was responsible for getting Jaun Williams fired. Oh, well, how do convince a liberal that they got the whole thing bass ackwards?

Juan was NPRs most famous face.

And the only black face.

Hey guys...We're talking RADIO here...I've never seen any faces whether black or white, or any color on my radio...

Good for Juan.

Good for Juan, not so good for us. Although Juan has been a bit more reasonable in the past year or so, he is so left it hurts to watch him. He got a raw deal from NPR, but his remedy is to sue them. I shouldn't have to see him more on FOX. In a way, you could look at his good fortune as a sellout--he's taking the FOX money which is only available because of this NPR affair.

FOX is running the NPR bashing non-stop tonight. I don't mind that, but after it all calms down, there will be entirely too much of Juan Williams air time.

I think it’s great that FOX did this but couldn’t we have made a trade for Shepard Smith?

As was announced on FOX Sports, the Trading Deadline was October 19th...

Same here, I always disagree with Juan and yet I couldn’t be happier for the man. Though he would defend the Devil if he had a (D) next to his name, he has the right to spout his nonsense anytime and anyplace.

Common Sense wins. That is rare.

“Maybe now Juan will understand that its the LEFT who are the racist a-holes and he will come to the right. I hope so. Never agreed with Juan’s political views but never thought he was a bad guy. He was actually one of the few leftists who I can still stomach hearing. You see it Juan, do you FINALLY see who the REAL bigots are..its NPR and its the left”

I think he _will_ find himself “moving rightward”. Might be a short step or two, but could be more.

I sense that if he was the die-hard doctrinaire leftie, he would _never_ have signed with Fox News — they’re detested by the Left.

Somebody ought to hand him a copy of David Horowitz’s book, “Radical Son”....

If Mr. Williams ever has a similar epiphany, watch out!

BTW, did you read Ms. Palin’s Facebook posting re Mr. Williams?

LOVE it! JW is just about the only lib I can stomach listening to. He is a gentleman, and not stupid. Glad FOX stepped up and did the right thing. (Unlike NPR. They can whistle for their next donation from me!!!)

I don’t watch any talking head shows anymore, but Juan is one of the few media liberals who is worth having on such shows. He should get all slots previously given to the execrable Colmes, Beckel et al. I don’t agree with much of anything Juan Williams ever says, but he is the rare liberal who is actually open-minded enough to have a thoughtful, calm discussion rather than a rant.

I don’t agree with much Juan has to say, but I support his right to believe what he believes... NPR gets at least 16% of it’s funding from taxpayers and clearly doesn’t support free speech,.

This is terrific!

Sometimes I agree with Juan Williams. Sometimes I don't.

He is center-left. I am center-right.

No matter.

Only the (increasingly) totalitarian left wishes to silence those who do not march in lockstep with Politically Correct Doctrine.

These folks believe in the same sort of "freedom of speech" that the former Soviet Union embraced: the freedom to speak The Officially Sanctioned Line.

I sincerely hope that Juan Williams writes a book as regarding this matter, and makes a mint off it; and that, together with his (now) expanded role at FNC, with an attendant increase in salary, his new revenues will more than compensate for the loss of salary from the rancid NPR...
