Diversity may mean non-White to you; it means Black to everyone else in the United States.

See for yourself. I was just looking into colleges last night. And I noticed that most colleges boast about their "diverse" student body when a large number of their students are Asian, Hispanic, or women. Newsweek ranks colleges, and it counts "gay" as diversity. I'm serious. Everyone except "white straight" males counts as "diversity".

Check it yourself very quickly: An article posted here yesterday linked to Newsweek's college rankings. Take a look at its rankings for "The 25 Most Diverse Schools". You can see for yourself that most of the schools are considered "diverse" because they have a large number of students who are Asian (or from outside the U.S.):

The 25 Most "Diverse" Schools

Further clarifying post #23:

As stated in my first post, EVERYONE who is “non-white” is counted under “diversity” - Asian, black, Hispanic, etc.

FTR, I agree that it’s unfair. It’s also insulting if you happen to fall under the “diversity” category. I don’t want these policies in place, either.

I’m just pointing out that “Asian Americans” are given minority status, too. That doesn’t mean every person of Asian descent wants that status. It just means: (1) if you’re Asian, you do qualify as a “minority” if you apply for a federal tuition grant; (2) schools do count Asian Americans as “minorities”; and (3) the federal government does target the Asian community with special grants and programs.
