D.C. joins 13 states which serve three meals a day at school and to the tune of $5.7 million. Officials here have embraced the program because they realize healthy, well-fed kids learn better.
We're reaching 10,000 kids a day at 99 of our 120 schools," said Anthony Tata, Chief Operating Officer of D.C. Public Schools.
That's about 25 percent of the student population. And another big benefit of the after school dinners are that more kids are enrolling in after school programs where they can get some academic help as well.
So the dinners are really serving three purposes - fighting hunger, obesity and offering help with classwork too.
And the best news of all is this is a federally-funded program.
We're reimbursed on a per meal basis," Tata said. "We can already see the good it's doing for our kids."

Might as well add hot baths/showers,lodging, and clean beds, along with pajamas with the “Yes we can” logo.
Uniforms. And chants.
I read that too and was thinking there is no way he came up with that....he was coached big time.

Oh those presents are covered too.
Last year my company volunteered at the Salvation Army to help give out Christmas presents.
I remember carrying some really heavy bags filled with toys for a woman to her Cadillac Escalade while she was talking on her blue tooth phone.
The basic fabric of society in inner city Black America has disintegrated. Black America is on its knees. Its the Lord of the Flies. It Orwell’s 1984. Mad Max. Rwanda, North Korea, Zimbabwe and its right in our back yards.
The only thing preventing Detroit, DC, etc from facing reality is the state and federal handouts that prop this hell up. Evil systems shouldn’t be put on life support. The plug should be pulled.
Not one more dime to keep things the way they are!
The lazy fat mama motto: I breed. You feed.
When you've been brainwashed by the school system since Head Start at the age of 3, sure it is.
To be totally honest, the biggest thing preventing a realisitic look and repairing the problem is that we aren't allowed to speak of the problem without someone screaming racism. A problem is never solved when open discussion can't be had concerning said problem.
We all know damn well that the parents of these kids get food stamps. Why can’t they cook? Drugged out? Too lazy?
Geesh
I also heard yesterday that there are many people who can well afford to feed their own kids taking advantage of this program.
Bet they are all leftists.
Too lazy. That’s it. No other explanation needed.
What’s the solution?
Proverbs 16:26
The laborer’s appetite works for him;
his hunger drives him on.
2 Thess 3:10
For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “If a man will not work, he shall not eat.”
100% in agreement. Nothing is hurt by debate. Only by enforced silence.
“I also heard yesterday that there are many people who can well afford to feed their own kids taking advantage of this program.”
My daughter went to a school where lunches were free for all the kids because there were so many on the free lunch program it wasn’t worth figuring out who wasn’t. I packed my daughter’s lunch. I discovered her ham sandwiches where quite the trade item. The two halves went to the highest junk food item bidders. She was golden at lunch with what I packed. LOL.
Leave it to the leftist scum of the Democrats in Washing to continue to fail to undertsand their issue. When you have so many kids needing help after school where is the failure? With the school system. How come I remember as a kid very few needing this kind of attention? Why are they so bad? From grade school forward the public school system is failing wildly. The hatred of the Christian God, the resentment of standards for kids an dteachers and the abysmal lack of real discipline are all factors they refuse to address.
You've got yourself a little entrepreneur on your hands. Good for you and good for her!
or are the famlies double-dipping?”
Surely not.
“You’ve got yourself a little entrepreneur on your hands. Good for you and good for her! “
Thank you. She’s 15 and in her 5th semester at UNLV thanks to mostly being home schooled. What a nightmare the few years were when she went to public school. I could just about write a book and would have easily won millions if I’d sued the 2 times I could have. I don’t believe in destroying people’s lives though when they’re just trying to honestly make a living.
If you cut the food stamp allowance, then they won’t have any stamps to sell so they can get some money for drugs.
