NPR terminated its contract this evening with Juan Williams, who worked with them as a senior political analyst, after Williams appeared on Bill OReilly and spoke of a Muslim dilemma:
Video
The move came after Mr. Williams, who is also a Fox News political analyst, appeared on the The OReilly Factor on Monday. On the show, the host, Bill OReilly, asked him to respond to the notion that the United States was facing a Muslim dilemma. Mr. OReilly said, The cold truth is that in the world today jihad, aided and abetted by some Muslim nations, is the biggest threat on the planet.
Mr. Williams said he concurred with Mr. OReilly. He continued: I mean, look, Bill, Im not a bigot. You know the kind of books Ive written about the civil rights movement in this country. But when I get on the plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous.
Mr. Williams also made reference to the Pakistani immigrant who pleaded guilty this month to trying to plant a car bomb in Times Square. He said the war with Muslims, Americas war is just beginning, first drop of blood. I dont think theres any way to get away from these facts, Mr. Williams said.
A taxpaying-funded organization fired someone over their free speech? No! Shocker!
NPR said in its statement that the remarks were inconsistent with our editorial standards and practices, and undermined his credibility as a news analyst with NPR.

Maybe Juan will turn into a Bernie Goldberg.
Defund National Pravda Regurgitation.
It is not our war against Islam - it is Islam’s war against us.
They are all for free speech Lori but the free speech they are all in favor of is only that which agrees with THEIR template! Step out of those boundaries and YOUR FIRED!
“Maybe Juan will turn into a Bernie Goldberg.”
I have long thought he has a rendezvous with enlightenment.
This may move him along the road quite a ways.
YOUR should be YOU’RE
Freedom of speech is not actually granted to employees by employers.
Though I feel for Juan...he often gets the Tom treatment from the Left for being too reasonable even though he is one of them.
It’s not really a free speech issue. It’s a government sponsored political bias issue.

Juan Williams is a liberal with occasional bursts of insight into conservativism. For the most part, he is honest in his views even if wrong headed. For NPR to fire him over these benign statements drops NPR even lower in my view, if that is possible.
Too bad for Juan, but without his liberal credentials from NPR, all he has left is Fox News, and that leaves him with a real problem with his followers.
Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy...
that is odd...never seen a split double...and did not think I overclicked..
Since NPR is gummint supported, have they violated Juan’s 1st Amendment right; has the government abridged his right to free speech?
Firing Juan Williams is an affront to the first amendment. Mr. Williams didn't make the comment on your station. Soros' millions has entered your veins. I will be contacting the new congress to urge that they stop funding npr. People will be enraged when they wake up to this news.

I agree. Now he might open up and express his true feelings and leave the plantation.
