The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee isnt the only one pulling out of the Show-Me State.
POLITICO has learned that a day after announcing it was devoting $800,000 to Rep. Roy Blunts Senate campaign, American Crossroads is canceling its own advertising blitz in Missouri.
Its reason? Blunt doesnt appear to need the assistance.
The polls are good, the DSCC is out. As far as were concerned, this race is over, said American Crossroads spokesman Jonathan Collegio.
Collegio said the conservative organization that has devoted more than $20 million to hotly contested Senate contests decided to cancel its television reservations from Oct. 26 to Nov. 2 in all six of the states television markets.
Theres no reason to believe anything fundamental will change between now and Nov. 2., he said, pointing to internal and public polling showing Blunt with a comfortable lead in the high single digits.
Collegio could not immediately say where the money dedicated to Blunt would be redirected.
A new Rasmussen Reports survey released Wednesday showed the southwest Missouri congressman leading Democrat Robin Carnahan by 9 points, 52 percent to 43 percent.
In a last-ditch effort to derail Blunt, Democrats released a letter Tuesday that Blunt sent two decades ago on behalf of a woman who had done some work for Blunts then-wife.
A state Democratic Party official accused Blunt of using his Beltway connections to help the woman get citizenship. Blunt told the St. Louis Post Dispatch Wednesday that he did not recall the woman in question ever doing any work for him as a housekeeper. Blunt's spokesman, Rich Chrismer, said in a statement Tuesday that the woman "never worked for the Blunts. She simply helped out at a couple of church events." Last week, the DSCC canceled a significant portion of its advertising buy for the final two weeks before the election, a telltale sign that the Midwestern battleground is increasingly viewed as a safe seat for Republicans to hold.
Theres less to balance out in terms of messaging, Collegio said. This thing is over.
Last thing Missouri needs is a dynasty. America as well...Time to let the Carnahans enjoy their taxpayer funded windmills...
I’ve supported Blunt for the duration of this race but it’s not so much that he is a strong candidate as it is that Carnahan is weak.
The Carnahans have gotten enough of Missourians money. They need to go find work on their own.
It's past time to stop government welfare.
tilting at windmills lol
Robin “Quixote” Carnahan.
