And Republicans have held power for more than twenty years of the last thirty - controlling the House, and the purse strings, for a very long time. Yet in that time, Federal government increased exponentially. Social interference by the government at the federal level increased.
It is hilarious to claim that Republicans stopped Amnesty. Don't EVEN start that crap. Had McCain (the veritable poster-child for Amnesty) been elected, you can bet money that Amnesty would have been jammed down our throats YET AGAIN- Even as it was TWICE by Gorge the panderer, and McCain't himself.
Had it not been for the enormous outcry by the American people, REPUBLICANS would have eagerly passed Amnesty. And where the hell is Hunter's BORDER FENCE? That was cratered by REPUBLICANS - Kay Bailey Hutchison gleefully in the lead.
As for Government Healthcare, McCain's agenda in healthcare is not far removed from Obama, and Bush's part D is the biggest single increase in medicare ever. Need we even bring up Romney?
On economics, The REPUBLICAN Administration had the duty to prevent illegalities on Wall Street, and were complicit by way of their non-action wrt Freddy/Fanny... And Bush's economy was every bit as Keynesian as what is practiced now.
This election is not about Republicans suddenly being palatable - It is about "Throw the Bastards Out" - with the Republicans being largely advantaged simply because they are not in power.

As a Republican of thirty years who left the fold in 2007, you can be assured, me and mine will not be back, nor give any support, until Reagan's own hold the levers of power.
