But the Republican is close on the incumbent's heels as far as individual contributions go.
Republican 13th District congressional candidate Dee Adcock kept close on the heels of Democratic incumbent Allyson Y. Schwartz when it came to raising individual campaign contributions over the last quarter.
However, the three-term incumbent financially clobbered the political novice in securing checks from special interest groups.
The campaign committee for Adcock, an Abington businessman, raised $147,630 in contributions from July 1 through Sept. 30, according to its campaign expense report filed last Friday.
Of the $147,630, $135,410 came from individual contributors while another $12,120 came from political action committees.
Schwartz' campaign committee reported raising $375,162 during that same reporting period. That financial tally included $175,091 in individual contributions and another $200,054 in contributions received from political action committees.
This is the first time since his campaign got under way that Adcock has not loaned his own money to the campaign. Overall, Adcock, who co-owns a family swimming pool supply company, loaned his campaign $380,000.
"The money is coming in pretty good now," said Adcock campaign manager Skip Henry.
Much of the Adcock money has come from small business owners "who are fed up with the anti-business stance of the Obama administration," said Henry.
For example, some 28 family members of the Asplundh tree trimming company met with Adcock and subsequently decided to make individual contributions as well as create a political action committee to donate additional funds to the campaign, according to Henry.
"We just had a good fundraising event Saturday and have one more major event planned before the election," said Henry.
Advertisement The county GOP contributed $100 to the campaign while the national and state organizations have all but ignored the race while focusing on higher profile contests such as the 8th District battle between Democratic incumbent Patrick Murphy and Republican Michael Fitzpatrick, who previously held that seat.
"Do I wish we had more money," said Henry. "What campaign manager will tell you 'no.' But we have enough to do what we intended and, with our grassroots support, I think we will shock a lot of people on Election Day."
The campaign, which has already sent out two mailings, intends to send out additional mailings before the election. Also, starting today, it will be running political ads on cable television, according to Henry.
Schwartz took to the electronic airwaves last Friday, airing political ads on both network and cable television.
During this last quarter, Schwartz' contributions from political action committees outpaced her contributions from individuals by about $25,000. The bulk of the political action committees represent organizations with ties to the health care industry, union organizations and banking and investment companies.
Overall, Schwartz' campaign reported receiving about $1.56 million from individual contributors and $1 million from political action committees for this election.
Adcock, who spent $139,703 over the last quarter, entered into the final month of the campaign with $293,200 cash in his coffers. Schwartz had a war chest of $3.4 million after having spent $287,325 over the last quarter.
The newspaper could not reach Schwartz campaign manager Rachel Magnuson for comment on this story.

Keep up the good work. Let’s hope Corbett and Toomey have some coattails to help Dee. I’m finding people receptive to our message as I walk the district, but we need to give them information and get them to the polls.
And let’s hope the national turnout numbers we’re seeing with Gallup and Rasmussen happen in the 13th as well - that will negate the Dem advantage in the NE Philly part of the district.

I think a lot of people are very motivated, and we have more energy in our local GOP than in recent years. Unfortunately, it’s still not universal. Local Republicans became discouraged after years of Dem in-migration and influence. We need them to do more than sit at the polls on election day, but we’re grateful to have any help at all.
The NE Philly portion of the district is just as likely to move towards the GOP than the district’s (mostly liberal) Montco precincts. This could be a stunning upset on election night.

This article inspired me to donate. I live in Schwartz’s congressional district and I see waaaay more Adcock signs than hers.
I also work the company mentioned in this article, and I hope they dig deep for Dee and give him a spending bump in these last days.

Have you noticed something else - do you ever see a Schwartz sign in a yard by itself? I haven't. Her signs are always with Onerato signs and/or Sestak signs or signs for Josh Shapiro, the Dem state rep in Glenside/Abington. I see plent of the other signs by themselves, but it looks like only Dem party types will put up a Schwartz sign.
But I see solo Dee signs all over the place.
Her support is purely party-driven, she doesn't really have community support, she moved to the district in 2004 to run for the seat. Whereas Dee has lived in Abington his entire life, and has deep community and business ties.
Go Dee, GO!!!!! Hope he wins!

I hope you’re right about his community ties. I don’t think Schwartz is at all beloved. Let’s hope GOP enthusiasm sweeps Dee in.
If Dee wins, we’ll know this election was truly epic. And that’s not a knock on Dee, he is exactly the kind of candidate we need running, a citizen running for office not for personal gain, but to be a citizen representative for a few terms who wants to go home when it is done. Let’s see if the 13th is worthy of this man.
