Iran Confirms Planes Being Refused Fuel In Europe
Reuters ^ | October 19, 2010

Iran confirmed on Tuesday that some companies were refusing to refuel its planes at European airports and said it would retaliate if the situation continued.

Iran has played down the impact of international sanctions, which were tightened in June, and previously said news reports that Iranian airlines were having problems refuelling abroad were part of a "psychological war."

A series of “accidents” at their main gasoline import terminal would really put some pressure on the Mullahs.

On the subject of OPEC, it will have its first women minister:

“Nigeria’s Minister of Petroleum Resources Diezani Alison-Madueke has scheduled an Oct. 14 gathering with the media at the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries meeting in Vienna. She is the first woman OPEC minister although women, including Kuwait’s Siham Razzouqi, previously have led national delegations at OPEC meetings.”

I found this from:
http://txlady706.wordpress.com/

Participants said the election had been a unanimous one by the group, whose members range from U.S. allies such as Saudi Arabia and Kuwait to historically hostile countries including Venezuela, Libya and Iran itself.

Is this correct? Does anyone have confirmation?

Check this out:
OPEC countries are exceeding their quotas as prices creep above the $70-$80 a barrel band that Saudi Oil Minister Ali al-Naimi called “ideal.”

“We would love to see $100 a barrel,” Shokri Ghanem, chairman of Libya’s National Oil Corp. said. “We’re losing real income. Libya in particular would like to see a higher oil price.”

Other countries are less certain: Kuwait’s oil minister said he’d prefer a price no greater than $85 a barrel; while the Algerian minister said a price between $90 and $100 a barrel was “reasonable.”

To your point:
There are eleven member countries of OPEC, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries. They are: Algeria, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and Venezuela.

They are: Algeria, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and Venezuela.

This is quite telling if each nation voted for iran to head.

My quick review of their statues indicates that the leadership is by vote of the members, not on a rotating basis: http://www.opec.org/opec_web/static_files_project/media/downloads/publications/OS.pdf

Iran was elected unanimously.

I am not 100% certain, but I suspect all these elections are unanimous, with each country being elected when it's their "turn". That would be a typical sort of arrangement for an international organization like this.

As for a list, the current membership of OPEC is: Algeria, Angola, Ecuador, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Venezuela.
