House Minority Leader John Boehner is still soliciting funds for a longshot Ohio House candidate who has dressed up as Nazi officer in historical re-enactment events. And, according to a spokesman, Boehner doesn't fear any backlash.
The website of Boehner's Freedom Project PAC has a page dedicated to introducing potential donors to Rich Iott, who is seeking to unseat Democratic Rep. Marcy Kaptur in the Toledo-based 9th District. Freedom Project donated $5,000 to Iott's campaign in September, before images of Iott in a Waffen-SS uniform appeared on the Internet.
Democrats have sought to tie several Republicans to Nazis and other hate groups this election cycle often with tissue-thin connections but Iott is the only one who actually appears in Nazi garb.
"Its bad enough Republican Leader John Boehner recruited and then embraced a Nazi enthusiast running for Congress, but to add insult to injury for the past ten days hes refused to apologize to our nations veterans and to those of the Jewish faith while continuing to finance this disgraceful candidate," said Ryan Rudominer, a spokesman for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
Don Seymour, a spokesman for Freedom Project, told POLITICO that Boehner's support for Iott hasn't been shaken and that he isn't worried about the re-enactments turning off voters or donors.
Uh, Cantor is Jewish. I think the whole Nazi thing would spook him just a bit don’t you?
According to the ‘Rats, we must eliminate all high school drama productions of “The Sound of Music” (too many Nazi uniforms) and all Civil War re-enactments (those horrible slave owners.)
Another fake scandal
If he can't distinguish a re-enactment of history, then he's too thin skinned to represent us.
Instead, we get this stupid "dressed as a Nazi" crap!
Get over yourselves....
Colonel Klink was played by a Jew who fled Germany.
Remember Sgt. Schultz? Same thing.
Generel Burkhalter? Yup.
Oh, and POW LeBeau (Robert Clary) was a camp survivor, right down to his tatoo.
By this reasoning, we don’t have to listen to Tom Cruise because he dressed as Claus von Stauffenberg in a movie.
Not that I’d listen to him anyway.
Meanwhile nobody can get jobs, the country teeters on bankruptcy and health and energy costs are going through the roof.
If Iott was a Nazi, yeah. But he's a war reenactor and there is not a bit of difference between a reenactor and actor.
Being spooked at Iott would be like being spooked at Dick Shawn doing Springtime for Hitler.
LOL
I certainly hope it would NOT make a difference.
If it came out that a politician had Nazi sympathies, all should reject them, whether Jewish or not. Wouldn't you!?
If it came out that a politician enjoyed reenacting historical military battles as a hobby, then --
nothing.
“Another fake scandal”
I agree. That is exactly what it is.
I don't think he was as offended by Iott's wearing a Nazi uniform as much as he was put on the defensive by an ultra-liberal who espoused extreme political correctness. He should be faulted for falling into her stupid trap.
I’m much more offended by Trent Lott dressing as a Republican.
