NY Post Endorses Andrew Cuomo for Governor; Candidates Debate Tonight
NBC New York ^ | 10/18/2010

Posted on 10/18/2010 6:48:41 AM PDT by WebFocus

he New York Post has endorsed Democrat Andrew Cuomo for governor, saying it believes he has the "vision to blaze a path to reform.''

The endorsement comes hours before a seven-way debate in the contentious race to replace Gov. David Paterson in Albany.

The newspaper on Monday said it based its endorsement for Cuomo "in the hope, if not necessarily the full expectation'' that Cuomo would become the strong leader that New York state needs.

But the Post said it isn't clear whether anyone currently running for the state's highest office "is fully up to the task.''

It called Cuomo's Republican opponent, Carl Paladino, a man "with a towering temper and a well-documented contempt for the truth.''

The Post said Cuomo was an effective attorney general who understood "the underlying issues of Albany's ingrained dysfunction and the urgent need to address them.''

Cuomo and Paladino have been busy readying themselves for tonight's televised debate as their surrogates continued to snipe away.

Cuomo's campaign released a new TV ad claiming that Paladino would take away rights and that victims of rape and incest would be denied abortions that are now legal.

Paladino has said he personally opposes abortion as a Catholic. He has said that he would advocate against abortion, but changing abortion laws is not a legislative priority. He said abortion isn't an issue in the campaign but is a way for Democrats to energize their base.

Abortion rights in New York are protected by a supermajority in the Democrat-led Assembly.

How Paladino is going to turn this around in two weeks is going to be a Miracle.

According to report by the New York Times:

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/18/nyregion/18poll.html?_r=2&ref=nyregion

New Yorkers’ embrace of Mr. Cuomo stands in vivid contrast to many races around the country, where establishment candidates face steep climbs to re-election, and insurgents backed by Tea Party activists appear poised to win a significant number of seats in Congress.

Mr. Cuomo’s popularity appears to be fueled in part by widespread doubts about Mr. Paladino’s temperament and qualifications.

Some 59 percent of voters in the poll said that Mr. Paladino did not have the right temperament and personality to be a good governor, while 55 percent said that Mr. Paladino, a novice candidate who made millions as a real estate developer, did not have the right kind of experience.

Only 11 percent of voters in the poll had a favorable view of Mr. Paladino.

And when asked what comes to mind when they hear his name, voters who were surveyed offered a collection of negative personality traits, like “angry,” “bigoted” or “obnoxious.”

DON’T BELIEVE THE POLLS!

There is NO WAY ON EARTH Cuomo has that much support, especially upstate

Paladino signs outnumber Cuomo by at least 500 to 1

They must have been polling Cuomo’s staff

No matter how much doubt the NY Post has about Paladino, an endorsement of Cuomo was not necessary. “No endorsement” would have been better.

The New Yorkers' embrace of Cuomo puts them well outside the mainstream of American political and cultural life.

Even the funny little foreign guys in AlQaida recognized this when they attacked the City ~ they understood it would be difficult for the rest of us to work up any concern over these people ~ and that we'd probably let them get away with it.

Well, AlQaida was wrong but New Yorkers still don't get it.

It takes an establishment hack to blaze a path to reform, I guess.

The NY Post is the last newspaper standing on my list..... til now, that is. When my NJ paper, the Asbury Park Press, endorsed obama I cancelled my subscription after 20 years. The Post just damaged itself. While Paladino might not be the ideal candidate, he’s a lot better than Cuomo. Cuomo is a snake and he is largely responsible for the housing meltdown and Paladino needs to hammer that in tonight’s debate.

Paladino has gone to war against the NY Post (with good reason). Of course they would endorse Cuomo to hurt Paladino.

The New York Post has endorsed Democrat Andrew Cuomo for governor, saying it believes he has the "vision to blaze a path to reform.''

This statement is hilarious! Has Cuomo any record of "vision?" Has Cuomo ever had to make a payroll or run a business? He cannot even keep his marriage vows; his record of failure includes a failed marriage. What has he accomplished other than implement or recommend mindless and recycled proven failed policies? Too funny! The NY Post must be a clown factory!

RE: Paladino signs outnumber Cuomo by at least 500 to 1

Which part of New York State do you live in? I believe this is true in the Eerie County of New York and many places upstate.

Unfortunately, you are outgunned by the liberals who live in the New York City area, which is 8 million strong or 40% of the state’s population. The city and suburbs OVERWHELMINGLY support Cuomo. NYC is a lost cause.
