In Washington, a Senator Fights to Keep Her Seat
New York Times ^ | Oct.17, 2010 | WILLIAM YARDLEY

Never mind Nevada. If you are among the party power brokers and political fortune tellers obsessed with America’s most elusive elected position, Senate Seat No. 51, head to Washington — the real one.

“It is the future of America that’s at stake here,” said Dino Rossi, the man who just might give the Republicans the Senate majority. “It is, as it’s been dubbed, the 51st seat, potentially.”

Or not.

“Can I just tell you,” said Senator Patty Murray, a Democrat seeking her fourth term, “that’s the same line I have heard in every election I’ve ever been in.”

Is this one really different? Sure seems to be. Both parties as well as independent groups are pouring money into the Murrary-Rossi race. Polls are close, with Ms. Murray most recently having the edge. Democrats are clearly worried: President Obama is about to make his second trip to the state to campaign for Ms. Murray. Michelle Obama is also on her way, as is Bill Clinton.

Washington state has a history of tossing our prominent senators, including Warren Magnuson and Slade Gorton. And House Speaker Tom Foley? Long gone.

But then there are the quirks. Can anyone even come close to predicting the outcome in a state where nearly everyone now votes by mail, often weeks before Election Day? Given that fact, does the so-called enthusiasm gap that is said to favor Republicans this year still play the same role? Then again, just how solid is the conventional wisdom that Washington state is steadily marching leftward? John McCain lost the state by 17 points in 2008 but Mr. Rossi lost the governor’s race that same year to the incumbent, Christine Gregoire, by less than 7 points. Now he is riding a Republican wave.

I don’t think Patty Murray has ever been quite the same since her old boyfriend, Saddam Hussein, was hanged.

There’s a reason it’s a blue state, and in recounts, just enough votes show up to win, if the errr...People....err... don’t do what the RATS want them to do.

Yes, but she is heartened by the occasional audio tapes that she gets from her secret lover Osama that help her keep the faith and preserve.

Oregon has had Fraud by Mail for over a decade. Works very well for the DNC.

Any restrictions on how many ballots at a time one can send?

It’s true, and I hate it. I always enjoyed going to the polling location to cast my vote. Just being in line with fellow Americans concerned enough to come out to vote and participating in a system born of our Founding Fathers was a wonderful feeling. If I’m not mistaken the libs here in WA pushed hard for this Vote By Mail. I’m sure they figured they would gain some kind of advantage.

I remember her biggest backer when she first ran was Ed Asner, an out-and-out communist. I didn't know old 'Lou Grant' was one until then. So for me it was a sad day. But it also made me realize this so-called mom in tennis shoes wasn't a lady either. She is an anti-military marxist, just like Obama and 'Lou.' FIRE HER.

They open them before the election and tell the Dems how many they need to manufacture to win. Course that is after the counters decide what the voter intended.

Pray for America

If you are in a state like Oregon that has Vote By Mail, don’t turn your ballots in until the last minute. Oregon law allows the ‘counters’ to open your ballot a week before the election ends. And that is how those cheating know how many extra votes they need to ‘catch up.’ So hold your ballots right up close to deadline.

Washington is. Easier to “lose” bad ballots and “find” good ones. Fraudulent scum.

It's not her seat--it belongs to the people of Washington. They decide who occupies it.

I don’t know how they are opened. But one of our leading talk radio personalities, Victoria Taft, explained some of the trickery last week. And I recall the 2000 election, the Sec. State’s #2 person - former campaign manager for Clinton Gore - telling Gore that Oregon would go his way. And Dino Rossi has been hoodwinked by Seattle twice over the governorship, after having the most votes. OR and Washinginton are lousy with commies.. And may of them are in charge of voting ‘integrity.’ What a joke.
