This is almost of bad as a loss, since the current policy is detrimental to the minor parties.
As things stand, voters who select the same candidate on two different lines on the paper ballots used by the new voting machine system will see their vote counted for the first party that appears on the ballot.
That is, of course, very bad for the minor parties. The WFP appears in Row E; the Conservative Party is on Row D (ironically, a spot the WFP has been trying to usurp for years now).
If the WFP fails to hit that 50,000 mark in the governor’s race, it will lose its official status and, more importantly, its ballot status. Ditto for the Conservative Party, which already has enough to worry about, given the implosion of its standard-bearer, Republican gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino.

In other words, anyone who votes for Paladino on the "CONSERVATIVE" line as well as the "Republican" line will be reported as voting on the liberal "Republican" line.
That is, if the Republicans nominate a conservative who also gets the Conservative Party endorsement, the Conservatives will not get any credit for that vote if both are marked for that same candidate.
This is very damaging to Conservatives in New York.
This isn't important for the candidate, who would get the vote in any case, but it's important for the parties. Not only is ballot order determined by number of votes for the PARTY in the gubernatorial contest, but, IIRC, a party drops below 50,000 votes, it is removed from the ballot.
Therefore, it is important for Conservative voters to not vote Republican if you want the vote to go to the Conservative Party.
I have zero respect for 3rd parties in this election, ESPECIALLY so-called “conservative” 3rd parties.

Third parties often endorse the same candidates as the Republicans and Democrats, and the votes go to the candidate. But the voter can vote CONSERVATIVE to indicate a preference of the conservative side and not just the typical liberal Republican that the NY GOP loves.
Here’s a question... If this is the case, why would someone want to appear on two different lines of a ballot? People should be selective and smart enough to know the rules of voting, and if they cannot figure this out ahead of time, they have no business voting. Spoiled ballots should be tossed out.
Because you vote for a candidate, but the ballot is a matrix and if a candidate is good and supported (endorsed) by several parties, he's listed for each of those endorsements. Therefore, I can vote on the Conservative Line and support the candidate and the party. But legitimately, the candidate can be checked off two or more times and it's the same candidate.
For example, the conservative Carl Paladino is endorsed by the Republican Party, the Conservative Party, and the Taxpayer Party...to show my support for the Conservative Party, I would vote on the Conservative Party line.
Yes, I shouldn't vote Republican, too, but the fact is that if I check both, I have not voted for two candidates.
Here’s another novel thought: Instead of tossing out the late military ballots, why not delay the official results until all have been received? Time stamp the ballot, and as long as the ballot was within a window of opportunity to allow those in the battle field to vote (or electronic votes for them) then count them later. All votes should be counted, and special accomodations should be afforded the military. This entire liberal anti-military attitude is outrageous.

For me, I'll take the system where I can cast my vote for a candidate based on my preference by party. It is nice to have the Republicans realize that there's a large block of Conservatives, so they don't think they can do without the Conservative Party endorsement (in the past 20 years, no Republican has been elected without having the Conservative Party line, too.)

Long ago, here in Georgia, we could vote “straight ticket”.
The first few lines of the ballot would allow you to pick a party;
and you did not have to go any further into the ballot.
That has not been the case for a long time now.
In other States, it doesn't work that way. So, there's no reason to trash 3rd Parties in New York.
I make sure never to select “straight ticket” to make it clear I voted for individual candidates rather than a party...no party can take me for granted.

File a lawsuit to change it. Call Al Gore’s attorneys. If that is the way candidates are listed in New York, then the courts should have no right to overrule them. If New Yorkers elect another criminal like Cuomo, they get what they deserve.

Do something about it in your state. In our state, the CANDIDATE is listed, and the party affiliation is a sub-category. Apparently in your state, it is listed by party. Totally bass ackwards. Not our problem, but New York’s for putting up with it. Get the law changed. Sue them.
