Rep. Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) ripped into a reporter outside a debate late Thursday, telling the scribe to "shut up!" as cameras rolled in the second taped confrontation between a New York candidate and a journalist in three weeks.
According to the reporter, Kingston Daily Freeman's Bill Kemble, the long-serving congressman came at him after the cameras were off, resuming the argument, poking his finger in his chest and putting his hands near his throat before backing off.
The scrap added a bipartisan flavor to the fighting that's gone on in races of late, with New York Republican gubernatorial hopeful Carl Paladino and a New York Post reporter squaring off in a three-minute tangle in which the candidate said, "I'll take you out, buddy!"
In this case, Hinchey was talking to reporters before a League of Women Voters-sponsored debate with his Republican rival, George Phillips.
He was asked by Kemble about federal funding he'd secured for a project in his district and whether he might have a financial interest in it, as a crew from upstate Your News Now rolled tape.
"Are you trying to give the same phony stuff that are you put in the Freeman so many times?" Hinchey said. "Are you still as deceptive as you always have been? Are still you a manipulative guy? Youre full of baloney. Youre full of baloney.
Another reporter started to ask something, but Kemble tried again, at which Hinchey said loudly, "Shut up!"

Rep. Hinchey is about the sleaziest creature on this planet, and also about the stupidest. The guy is a thug and a greaseball, and I don’t use the terms lightly.
I recall when he was caught and convicted of trying to take a gun with him as he went to board a plane. Honest mistake, fine. But was he thrown into jail like you or I would be? No...that’s for the little people.
Woops, wrong thread. Sorry.
Hinchey the POS must be scared.
Just curious, but what is the project that Hinchey allegedly has his hands in?
Partition Street project in Saugerties
Sad that this is an issue when he is far more dangerous in the things he said right out in public, like how he favors the government taking over privately held refineries, etc.

Committing assault and battery?
Well, it wouldn’t be the first time he’s accused of striking someone who challenges him... Remember this:
