One of the great lessons we all learned as children was the importance of minding your own business.
And just to be clear, thats MYOB, not BYOB, although that is also an important principle to keep in mind.
MYOB is a simple idea, but if you think about it, it has also been the basis of all modern civilization.
It was behind the Reformation, the Enlightenment and parliamentary democracy.
It spawned the Magna Carta, the U.S. Constitution and the Charter of Rights.
Basically, its the right to tell everyone to mind their own business as long as youre doing something that doesnt harm or bother anyone else.
Or in other words, the right to tell the world to bugger off and leave you alone.
We have books full of laws to protect us from harming each other, because there will always be people who cant tell the difference between destroying themselves and taking other people with them.
For the evil, crazy and careless, we need laws to protect the rest of us.
For the arch conservatives, youd think MYOB should be their guiding principle.
They are constantly going on about the evils of big government, red tape and regulations, keep your hands off my land and guns, and its my God-given right to not wear a seatbelt and be thrown through the windshield if I want to.
But for people who believe in the freedom of the individual and the rugged pioneer spirit, conservatives have a hard time keeping their lips buttoned when telling other people how to live their lives.
Many of them are the first to start yapping when someone breaks off from the pack and marches to a different drummer, posting their outrage and condemnation in letters to the editor.
Whether its gay marriage, controversial art, religion or hot buttons like abortion or prostitution, MYOB goes out the window and they suddenly become authorities on how other people should be living their lives.
Dont get me wrong Im not advocating for any of these things.
I just think most of them are none of my business.
Im not gay, so gay marriage really is none of my business.
Its the business of gay people whether they want to get married or not and really doesnt affect me one way or the other.
Other peoples religion (or lack of it) is none of my business, as its not my job to get between anyone and their god.
Minding my own business also means I wont pester anyone on their doorstep or street corner about my god being able to beat up their god or how they are certainly going to hell if they dont worship the same way I do.
Of course, if their god is telling them to blow up people or make human sacrifices, then all bets are off, because at that point their business affects mine.
Liberals talk a lot about freedom and respecting individual choice, but they too cant resist in not following the MYOB rule.
Too many liberals suffer from thinking they know how to run other peoples lives better than everyone else, and figure that frees them from having to follow the MYOB rule as well.
Sometimes the best help you can give is to mind your own business until someone actually asks you for help and makes it your business.
In the meantime, live and let live and keep your nose out of where it doesnt belong.
But then again, maybe thats none of my business.

There are some people who call themselves conservatives, about whom the writer is correct. Mostly, however, it’s a straw man argument.
The social contract is not one size fits all. MYOB certainly contains some of the myriad of principles to which a group/state may agree to, and to live within. However MYOB is an oversimplification of the complexities contained within foundational concepts for a society, including it’s and do’s and don’ts.
Although MYOB is appealing, there is no universality in its application. To wit... there are many social contracts around the world that you and I may find repugnant, but the individuals living within any particular social contract may be content and happy. In other words, one persons MYOB may not be another’s.
And the same goes for a societal entity. There’s a rich history of writings over the past three thousand years examining MYOB under different names and guises.
Personally, I have chosen to live within an alternative social contract than the writer.
If the writer doesn’t approve of this social contract which I and my millions of associates have freely chosen, so be it: MYOB.
“Whether its gay marriage, controversial art, religion or hot buttons like abortion or prostitution, MYOB goes out the window and they suddenly become authorities on how other people should be living their lives.”
When you put your perversion and sexuality out on the street you MAKE it my business. When your ambition is to try to FORCE me to agree with you you MAKE it my business. When you try to portray me a a nazi you MAKE it my business. When you try to corrupt my child and his life with your sickness you MAKE it my business.
You lose, sicko.
Personally, I don’t care what they do as long as they don’t do it in the road and frighten the horses.
It may have escaped your attention that homosexual activists want to force schools to indoctrinate child (there really isn’t any other way to put it) with a particular view point. This is in part why I think public schools are a menace.
Close public schools, end the war on drugs and you can balance the budget.
It's not just that they want to get married, but that they also want the State to recognize such "unions," and to extend to them the same protections granted - for historical, but also pragmatic reasons - to traditional marriages.
Recognizing same-gender unions would then also confer upon married homosexual couples all of the associated entitlements of state-sanctioned marriage, e.g., Social Security survivor's benefits and the right to refuse to testify against one's spouse. And if "gay" marriage were to be placed on the same level as traditional marriage, then who's to deny them the opportunity to adopt children?
Regards,
You,ve got that right, partly any way, but when it comes to running government it is every ones business and since you mentioned gays i will use that as my point.
There is gays and then there is the gay agenda, the gay agenda is not to mind their own business but to bring your son into the fold, it is to show their hate toward God and to lesson your belief in God, if you have any.
In fact i believe that many of the people who are promoting the gay agenda are not even gay, but just people with an animosity toward God and that is the lowest blow they could give God
Prostitutes can get a customer just by letting men know that she is a prostitute, she does not have to promote it, advertising is not necessarily the same as promoting as it is not a money matter. Well that is the only way i can explain it because i am just a grade school drop out and with a lot of years experience.
We are not only talking about laws here, which is every ones business, we are talking about living together as a nation, as a people, and the last time i read the declaration of independence we are a nation under god and he has given us a very few simple rules.
And no, smoking cigarettes, and not wearing seat belts are not among them. in spite of what some people will say.
The bible says that if a man lies with another man as he would lie with a woman it is an abomination so if i go to the polls and vote ok on same sex marriage, how could i even think about facing god, or even myself?
On the abortion issue i am less sure because there are other circumstances, for instance the Bible says thou shall not kill, but it also says thou shall not kill with out cause, so i could not vote for total non abortion as there may be a cause.
I think people has the right to live the way they want to live, but if they try to shove it in my face i will resist.
This nation was established as a nation under God so if we go and make gay marriage legal, then we are saying we do not believe in God, or we do not want this to be a nation under God.
I have a problem with all of the children belonging to unwed mothers being taken care of by the taxpayers and it came about by people doing their own thing, and giving the responsibility to some one else.
,
So because of that my motto is ( if you do the dance, you pay the fiddler )
Everything else concerned, live like you want, you won,t get any grief from me.
Whether its gay marriage, controversial art, religion or hot buttons like abortion or prostitution, MYOB goes out the window and they suddenly become authorities on how other people should be living their lives.

And by the way, although i would not vote for legal prostitution i would also not have voted to make prostitution illegal. because the reason they want it illegal is because they don,t know a proper way to get their cut out of it, the politicians and people in government are the real whores.
It may have escaped your attention that homosexual activists want to force schools to indoctrinate child (there really isnt any other way to put it) with a particular view point. This is in part why I think public schools are a menace.
And when you use my tax dollars to push your perversion you’d better believe its my damn business.
Homosexuals are predators at heart. Homosexuals can’t make kids so they have to recruit them. The best way to do that is to hunt in the schools for them.

‘Maybe you should read the article again, he did not say that he was for any of those things,’
Too weasally by about half. I was responding to his point about motivations.
