Midway through her recent TNR article Building the Progressive Brand, Sara Robinson makes one essential point: Progressives, she writes, have always been at our best when we speak from a place of strong moral authority, rooted deeply in a daring vision of the kind of world wed like to create. Unfortunately, she completely ignores how such visions emerged in the past and, worse, assumes that a clever ad campaign can substitute for serious political thinking and organizing.

The best and perhaps the only way for progressives to regain their sense of moral authority is to build movements and nominate candidates who can speak in clear and rational ways about the need to build a decent society that mixes the creativity of the marketplace with the altruism of well-funded, well-run government programs and community and religious activism.

He's not calling for a discussion on how to help the poor or the downtrodden, he's calling for a discussion on how to get someone to pay for government programs and community activism.
If I didn't know better, I'd think that his idea of progressivism is less about helping those who need help, and more about finding ways to put money into their own pockets, so they can engage in their various feel-good hobbies without the bother of actually working for a living.
The problem is, narcissistic liberals have a strange and different definition of “strong moral authority” than the average American. Liberals think weird.
Yep. Very different definition of moral.
I often wonder how the ‘collectivists’ expect to persuade those of us who believe in individual freedom and economic liberty to cooperate with their theft ring.
We’ve long had a ‘mixed economy’. But the crony capitalism has reached too far and now they must suffer the consequences.
You get the government you deserve.
If they cannot persuade you nicely, the ‘progressives’ are well prepared to do it by force. History is full of their failures.
“Liberals think weird.”
We’ll have a chance to retire many of them to the funny farm on Nov. 2!;)
Name one.
My tie in with another seemingly unrelated story.
I think the shortage of minority marrow donors is a result of the odd mis-Christanity being taught in minority churches. Rather than doing the right thing because its the right thing, they want to be paid for doing the right thing.

What's more, Robin Hood notwithstanding, robbing people isn't altruistic nor moral, and taking my time, effort, and money away to benefit someone else is robbery.
The Communist-in-Chief, and others like him, who all cleverly call themselves Progressives, because who amongst us would ever stand against Progress, which after all has brought us not only the wheel and the Gutenberg press, but also our newest electronic toys, not to mention scientifically designed running shoes and recycled cardboard, all by the way manufactured in CHINA these progressive days, these neo-marxists, who wont admit to marxism, think they are so much smarter than the Pol Pots and Maos, think theyve learned from those naifs mistakes, and wont build gulags and killing fields, while still being the vanguard of the People, protecting them against the evil capitalists, but they have learned nothing, as evidenced by the current state of the country, which is roughly the same as the state of all countries right after they had been taken over by the Reds, and to tell you the truth Id prefer to be ruled by the former Communists from Russia and Eastern EUROPE and China, who are the only Communists that have learned their lessons, if only because they had all experienced the workers paradise first hand that evil fools like Obomba are attempting to establish for our own ignorant good. Whos with me to move to Estonia?

In sum, politics and the exercise of "moral authority" as a business opportunity.
