Prior to this ruling, what happened to a guy who might get years of valuable education and training paid for by the government with the understanding that in exchange the guy must provide some military service if he then discovered that he was becoming a homosexual just as his military service was beginning?
Would that guy get out of his obligation?

If he “just discovered” he was a homosexual, he would have been lying to get the free training and education. In that case, IMO he should receive punishment and pay back all the $ it cost the military to train him.
The DADT should be repealed, and go back to “Ask, and show ‘em the door if they give the wrong answer”.
