Unfortunately the % of women who were raped in the miliary who are seen at the VA or the Vet Center is miniscule

The % of reported rapes is less than the civilian population and that is at best only 10%

Women were punished in the AirForce and tossed out as “unfit” for talking...

Thus making null and void and lies anything the victim said

the Army etc was not much better...

But the Air Force has always prided itself in being a nice place for women to be so they have kept mum about any “alleged” rapes or molestation or sexual harrassment...

And had few records of rapes...

and unfortunately they still do ...

Regardless of their fancy front...

I don’t mean to suggest the numbers enrolled in the VA PTSD programs for sexual trauma are any where near the actual number of rapes. As you indicate, rape is underreported. What the VA has done, institutionally, is to implement a program that looks at stressors and triggers as indicators of a traumatic event(s). This program was implemented in the late 1990s as both the military and the VA began to recognize, acknowledge and address military sexual trauma.

Military rape victims more often don’t file for benefits.
When they do, there is usually no record of medical attention or reports because of fear of retribution or, as you say, disciplinary action. Lacking in service records of the events, the VA looks to behavioral patterns. The 4.0 member abruptly displays unacceptable behavior, turns to alcohol and/or drugs, becomes a disciplinary problem when before they were the model member. All of those can be used to support a contention of MST.

If your comment is autobiographical and you have not filed any claim with the VA you might consider it. Work with a Veteran Service Organization to get a strong advocate.
