Coming off a bare-knuckles debate this week, Democrat Jerry Brown hits his highest level of support to date in his race against Republican Meg Whitman to be the next governor of California.
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in the state finds Brown with 50% of the vote to Whitmans 44%. Two percent (2%) like some other candidate in the race, and four percent (4%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)
The race remains Leans Democrat in the Rasmussen Reports Election 2010 Gubernatorial Scorecard.
At the beginning of the month, Brown posted a similar 49% to 44% lead. Support for Brown, a longtime Democratic figure in the state who previously served as governor from 1975 to 1983, has steadily risen from 40% in late August. Backing for Whitman, who was hit in recent weeks with charges of employing an illegal immigrant as a housekeeper, has declined slightly from a high of 48% in the same period.
The survey of 750 Likely Voters in California was conducted on October 13, 2010 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/-4 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.

Incumbent Democrat Barbara Boxer continues to hold the slightest of leads over Republican challenger Carly Fiorina in Californias U.S. Senate race.
How do California voters rate the job market these days? How do they feel about debates and the candidates criticizing each other? Become a Platinum member and find out.
The people who vote for him are stupid beyond belief. I wonder how much more money Brown will make because he is governor.
This is what happens when you get a RINO vs a leftist. When will California learn?
If Californians vote in Brown for governor, then they get what they deserve—and they better not come to the Feds for money to bail them out. I’m tired of our tax dollars going to socialist states that want working people to pay for all of their stupid, economy-busting environmental regulations and welfare.
You don’t understand that people here in Cali have a different reality. We have a endemic and chronic moon dust fog here. Massive drug addiction, and a higher per-capita lobotomy population than anywhere else in the country. I have no other explanation as to how he could have gone up after the debate...
CA, where I live, I know people who had lost job last year, lost house this year and now exhausted saving, started using IRA/401 to pay bills are still behind Obama and will vote for Jerry Brown.
You can’t help dead brains.
You’re correct, they are zombies, and I don’t know if they’ll ever wake up.
But voting D makes them feel like they’ve done something virtuous, and really, it’s all about how you feel...
Well, what percentage of the population are feeding at the public trough? How many illegals getting free schools, medical care, and welfare benefits?
Exactly. I didn’t want Meg.......or Carly either.
But I will vote for her half heartedly. I haven’t sent money to her campaign! Can we say another “ Arnold”?
sad.
Put down the bongs and wake up for crying out loud, California! Kiss Prop 13 goodbye and get ready for taxes like you cannot imagine, you idiots.
Sigh ... but you know they will.
California is "too big to fail" doncha know?
****What the hell is wrong with the people of this state supporting this nutcase Brown??****
That’s ENTERTAINMENT!!!!!
Think about prior selections. I don’t believe they actually appreciated the philosphy and depth of Reagan, they just knew he had been a movie star.
Then the moonbeam son of a Brown - good for a laugh a day.
And Arhnold - plus a Kennedy wifey.
There have been some sprinkles of sanity with Pete Wilson and Deukmajian.....but California loves drama and cartoon breaks.
You just described the majority of the California population. I was born here. Most of the productive natives have died or moved out. Brown’s debate performance was terrible and his poll numbers went up. Go figure.
You are right ... feelings trump facts in CA.
Exactly! She CREAMED that idiot in the debate. The explanation is, it requires a brain and an understanding of business and economics to understand the logic of Whitman’s argument about needing to create a more suitable business and investment environment. The pinheads of this state don’t comprehend that. They comprehend sushi, dog parks and bike trails. Gawd I’m embarrassed to say I live here.
Mindless zombies indeed! I know a few! Democratic Party has become their fundamentalist religion . . . perhaps the reason they empathize so eagerly with the islamists.
You can call Californians many things but smart isn’t one of them.
Memo to the Whitman campaign:
Remind the voters that Jerry Brown appointed Rose Bird Chief Justice of the CA Supreme Court.
I live in California. How anyone here with a brain could vote for Democrats at all, especially after what happened in Bell, is a bigger statement on the pathetic state of the California Republican Party. Both Whitman and Fiorina are political neophytes. Neither of them are coming across with the strength or boldness that Angle, O’Donnell, Palin, or any of the other Women of the Right clearly show. They look like the appeasers they are likely to be.
These two Republican Broads in California need to Man Up :)
You guys don’t understand a damn thing about the situation in California. We have been inundated by a plague of parasites from all around the country and the world.
All the commies, homos, welfare cheats, homeless, shiftless and malcontents who couldn’t make it in your world came to settle here and participate in the great feeding frenzy on the carcass of our once great state.
CA is home to one third of all welfare recipients in the country. We are loaded to the gills with the foriegn born, both legal and illegal. Almost all of them are on the tit in one form or another.
The Democrat party has actively promoted this situation for their own power. They are on the point of claiming total power. This election is our last gasp.
So give us a frickin’ break alright?
