There are parts of the country that are closed to the conservative message.

I agree, this is not a bad move. People need to relax a little about Sarah Palin, not everything is a personal assault on her.

McCain Republican eschews McCain Republican to appear with McCain.

How earthshaking.

Too late. She was one of his top campaign managers. She’s got RINOitis from head to toe.

We'll see what happens when she gets to the Senate. I'm not ready to throw her overboard.

Certainly not now. With babs as the horrid alternative.

Yup. McCain sells to unaffiliated voters in CA. This is a blue state Senate race, and all of the potential Palin votes have already been tapped. This is a smart move by Fiorina.

The fact is, everyone is right. People are forgetting that we live in the era of Rove&Co microtargetting. The Palin/Fiorina message went out strong in the Inland Empire with millions for ads and won Fiorina the primary. Palin definitely pushed her over the edge with older voters in that region.

But John McCain will probably play better in places like L.A., Orange County, and San Diego. (Just don't let those elderly folks in the Inland Empire find out).

To say that Palin is more or less popular than McCain in California is someone's opinion, nothing more. There is no substantive evidence to say one way or another. But remember, John McCain only got 37% of the vote in Nov 2008 (and only 42% of Republicans in the primary). In other words, McCain ain't real popular here.

Fiorina recently stated in an interview that Sarah Palin was certainly qualified to be POTUS.

Yes. Notice how the Politico author left out that recent quote, yet he gave the old 2008 Fiorina quote saying Palin wasn't qualified to run a company.

Some much for the author trying to be objective.

And some here eat it up, unnamed sources and all.

Caryl is very conservative for CA. She is anti-abortion in CA !!!!

The legitimate complaint about Carly on abortion is that she said Roe v. Wade was settled law.

Very simple. John McCain is popular in CA, Palin, amongst many, is not. It’s called practical political move. Good strategy for this particular state. Not everything is a personal insult against Palih. This is politics 101, do what’s going to work in CA.

John McCain is very UNPOPULAR in many parts of California — among Republicans.
His election record speaks for itself.
Or read any of the local conservative blogs.
NOT popular.

You CANNOT talk about what works “in California.” It is too diverse. What works in one part of the state, won’t work in another.

Regardless, as I said, Fiorina is working it based on who plays best in which area.

I should have qualitified it to amongst moderates and some liberals, as that is what John McCain is too. The battle is taking place in Northern CA, thus the appeal of McCain over Palin.

California GOP Senate nominee Carly Fiorina is skipping a chance to appear with Sarah Palin at a major Republican National Committee fundraiser so she can campaign with Sen. John McCain instead.

So what. Whoopie do. Fiorina chooses to campaign. This is news?

Exactly. Palin knows where she can and cannot campaign, California is a not now that Fiorina has won the primary... this is smart politics.

So what?

Republicans can't elect a dogcatcher in California.

Any non-Democrat who aspires to statewide office needs space between him(her)self and the GOP.

If you are a Republican in CA, you need to grow up and deal with that.
