Speaking at the San Jose mine at the end of an emotional day, Laurence Golborne, Chile’s mining minister, said that engineers had decided the first 315 feet (96 metres) of the shaft would need to be cased with steel lining as a protection against falling rocks.

"There had been fears that it could take until Christmas to release the trapped men. But eventually they were reached by American engineers operating a Schramm T-130 drill that was one of three separate probes – dubbed Plan A, Plan B and Plan C."

"Plan B made the final breakthrough. Jeff Hart, who operated the drill, said: "It was just unbelievable. I will never do anything this important in life. It's phenomenal." "

Where are those lying sons of b**ches here on FR who were saying the Aussies, Canadians and (?) Russians were the best miners and Americans were not very good? Disgusting slander they spewed here!

This drill team was run by Americans and the lifesaving drill is made by a company in PA.

I was wondering why Americans were even there, since all those other non-Americans were touted as being so much better. Hopefully, all the best miners, wherever they’re from, are working together to get the best result. What purpose did it serve to insult our guys?!

“Plan B made the final breakthrough. Jeff Hart, who operated the drill,”

Americans - doing work others are incapable of. Great job.

What a great story. I hope and pray that they are pulled to freedom safely and without incident. It really been an uplifting story in these days. Like the article said, this is the most dangerous part now. God be with them.

The miners, who have survived underground for longer than anyone else in history,
I just hope they don't come out like this.

I’ve been keeping one of my many eyes on this story. Sure pray that everything goes well and there is a 100% successful rescue.
