Brooklyn Bum Fakes War Wound for Cash
New York Post ^ | 10/10/10 | Brad Hamilton

Posted on 10/10/2010 9:28:40 AM PDT by rex regnum insanit

Semper fake! For years, Brooklyn commuters have opened their wallets for Robert McMahon, handing cash to this heroic and heartbreaking figure, a Vietnam vet in combat fatigues, his left arm missing and his right leg crippled, as he panhandles on Ocean Parkway in Kensington.

Used to have a neighbor who was a very experienced police detective. I asked him once about the panhandlers in our area. He told me they are ALL (no exception) frauds, never give them money.

Totally correct. Give any bum $ and you become an enabler. I watched one of the cardboard sign holders who stood on “HIS” corner, finsih the day and go over to a new SUV and drive off.

This guy is a phony. If he is 53 y/o, that means he was born in 1957 and claims to have served in VN in '72-'73 when he was 15-16 y/o. No way that ever happened.
He also claims to have been with the 2nd Division. The 2nd Division was never in VN and remains at Camp Lejeune where it's been like forever.
Also, there is no MOS in the Marine Corps ..."0311-Bravo." This guy is 100% Bravo Sierra.
Semper Fi ...

I was in...Sang Bang... Dang Gong... I was all over the place, a lot of places. What unit? I was with the Green Berets, Special Unit Battalions... Commando Airborne Tactics... Specialist Tactics Unit Battalion. Yeah, it was real hush hush. I was Agent Orange, Special Agent Orange, that was me.

If he’s 53 now then he was 15 when he served in Viet Nam in 1972. Now that’s a patriot.

Does anyone even know if any elements of the 2nd Marine Division were deployed in Viet Nam that late in the war?

Someone should give him a legitimate war wound.

Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

Interesting. There is a character in a Stephen King novel (Hearts in Atlantis) who fakes being a blind Viet Nam war vet for years to make a living out of it in New York City.

Life imitates art.

You’d think that genuine VFW folks would come out and protest these phonies.

Far as I’m concerned, he’s just a survivor. You’re all making too much of this.

Where could he get a living wage with those injuries?

By wearing the military fatigues, he makes TWICE as much...or more.

I’ve given money to the ‘road-median beggars’. I did deeper for those with missing limbs.

And so should you.

This is NOT the same as Blumenthal’s lie about serving in Vietnam, or John Kerry’s tales of bullsh*t.

Ya’ll need to lighten up.

Did you go to the link? There is a picture of him walking away, counting his money — with both hands. He’s a poser.

Check the link. He has no injuries, they are fake. They have pictures of him counting money with two hands. He hides one in the jacket when scamming. His legs are fine too.
He has a string of arrests. Pure scum.

The reason I asked him about the local panhandlers was because I was particularly curious about the female schlub who stood at the corner smoking, had a dog, and manicured fake nails. She always used to stand just across the street from a fast-food restaurant that had a big banner that said “now hiring.” I shoulda taken a picture of her!

I do have sympathy for the down and out. I match you there. Many of the homeless are mentally ill. In the 1980’s the Left decided that to hospitalize the mentally ill was to stigmatize them and they wanted the patients reintegrated into society. The Right agreed as those hospitals were expensive and it appeared cheaper to close the hospitals.

The result? A spike in homeless and the prisons and jails becoming the number one mental health care providers.

But there are still bums who are bums because they want to be. Booze and grifting are preferable to work.

In a weird way, he’s giving the donors a chance to reflect and to feel good about helping the helpless.

Some preachers do that every Sunday.
