North San Diego County...
We had a traffic pilot here in Denver start his traffic report one morning in early August 1993, “School’s in...gun sales are up.”

"I'll hold off comment until I dry"
Prayers for the kids and people at this school. WHY?? Why would a guy go shoot up an elementary school??
Don’t they understand that schools are “Gun Free Zones”?
Fox reported while ago that two children had been shot and taken by air ambulance to the hospital. They had no other details that I heard.
Jihad.
I live in Carlsbad; one mile from Kelly School. We used to live directly across the street from the school and our children attended Kelly.
Our youngest son-in-law is a Carlsbad police officer. Report from my daughter should be accurate. Two children were injured and life-flighted to Rady Children’s Hospital. It seems verified that their injuries were not life-threatening. Apparently they were grazed by gunfire but that is not solidly confirmed.
A man who lived nearby and was involved in the apprehension/taking down of the shooter said he had more ammo and was carrying a “gas can”. When spoken to, the nut didn’t make any sense. That’s all I know at this point.

“Two Students Suffer Minor Wounds in School Shooting”
Friday, October 8, 2010
SNIPPET: “Officers say a man said to be carrying a pumpkin was seen running across the campus firing a gun. Scott Chandler, who lives across the street from the school, told NBC TV that he helped capture the gunman. Chandler told the TV station that he and a couple of construction workers tackled the man.
“I believe he ran out of bullets, then ran to a fence, chased by a couple guys,” Chandler told NBC TV. Chandler described the man’s gun as a long barrel .38 and said the incident could have been much worse because he told NBC TV the gunman had a box of bullets in his pants that police recovered and had brought a 5-gallon gas can with him as well.”
SNIPPET: “Asked if the gunman was shooting at the school, Chandler said that the suspect “shot all over.” Chandler also said that after the suspect was tackled, he “wasn’t speaking clearly.” After police took the suspect into custody, Chandler jumped back over the fence and went with the school’s principal to search classrooms.
Authorities say the bomb squad was called in because there was a propane tank in the suspect’s car. The robot was on the scene after they determined the car was the suspected shooters’. They wanted to make sure the car wasn’t “booby-trapped””
Thanks. Way more info that I got from the news.

Yes, that is the location. Kelly Drive extends from El Camino Real to just past the school where it is crossed by Park Drive.
Our youngest also went to Magnolia in the latter years of elementary and both went to Valley. Carlsbad has exploded in growth. We now have several middle schools and a second high school, La Costa Canyon. I can’t remember if LCC was built back in 96. We have lived here since 1974.
It’s still a beautiful place. Of course the local reaction is, “How could this happen here?” Isn’t that always the case? It shows that sick minds lurk anywhere and everywhere and the world is a dangerous place.
Thank our Lord that the two injured children are going to be okay. Local news and also FNC reported that the parents had contacted police/city staff to let them know the children were doing well.
“His pistol apparently ran out of ammunition before several construction workers who happened to be in the area gave chase. One of them used his pickup truck to knock down the attacker, allowing them to catch him and hold him for police, who arrived moments later.”
