Following the Israeli Government decision to select the Lockheed Martin ] F-35 Lightning II as the Israel Air Forces next-generation fighter aircraft, Israeli Ministry of Defense Director General (Maj. Gen. Ret.) Udi Shani signed the Letter of Offer and Acceptance for the procurement of the F-35 aircraft earlier today in New York. Israel will be the first country to receive the F-35 through the United States governments Foreign Military Sales process.
Were very pleased with the Government of Israels decision to move forward with the U.S. governments Letter of Offer and Acceptance for the F-35, said Tom Burbage, Lockheed Martin executive vice president and general manager of F-35 Program Integration. This is another step in the longstanding relationship between Lockheed Martin and the nation of Israel. The Lightning II will strengthen Israels national security posture both militarily and industrially.
The F-35 Lightning II is a 5th generation fighter, combining advanced stealth with fighter speed and agility, fully fused sensor information, network-enabled operations, advanced sustainment, and lower operational and support costs.
Lockheed Martin is developing the F-35 with its principal industrial partners, Northrop Grumman and BAE Systems. Two separate, interchangeable F-35 engines are under development: the Pratt & Whitney F135 and the GE Rolls-Royce Fighter Engine Team F136.
Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin is a global security company that employs about 136,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The Corporations 2009 sales from continuing operations were $44.5 billion.

And now you see the ‘real’ reason Obama killed the F-22: Keeps Israel from maintaining air superiority in the M.E.
The F-35 is good for what it is, but it is no F-22.
Wicked man he is.
Ping
And, Obama has scaled back F-35 procurement by over 50%. However, when we ditch Obama, we will ramp up F-35 production and launch the F-22 Raptor B.
Hell, once we oust Odumbo from office I say we eliminate welfare and use the savings to revitalize F-22 production and high-tech R&D for future weapon systems...
From your lips to God’s ears.
Also, can I have my USN Sea Raptor? Please!!!
Add the F-35 IR situational awareness to the F-22, you'd have one sweet ride.
Heck, I'd be happy if they just put a helmet mounted cueing system to the F-22, like we have on almost every other fighter in the inventory. Kind of hard to shoot an off bore AIM-9X when you can't turn your head to designate the target.
I think Israel can get aircraft from other sources and then do their own personal modifications.
Right now while Obama is in office he is no friend to Israel and will find any way possible to get Israel into committing themselves on US made equipment that won’t be available for some reason or another.
