RENO, Nev. (AP) Veteran state Sen. Bill Raggio, one of Nevada's most influential Republicans over the last four decades, says he's reluctantly endorsing Democratic U.S. Sen. Harry Reid's re-election campaign.
Raggio issued a statement Thursday sharply criticizing GOP candidate Sharron Angle, branding her as a "totally ineffective" four-term state lawmaker.
Raggio also cited what he called Angle's inability and unwillingness to work with others even within her own party, and her extreme positions on Social Security and other issues.

Raggio Recall Effort Underway in Reno
By Sean Whaley | 5:06 pm November 19th, 2009
RENO Only a handful of Reno residents attended the first meeting today of a group seeking to recall veteran state Sen. Bill Raggio, but organizers say the response by phone and email suggests the volunteer effort will soon gain momentum.
Organizer Dana Allen, a businessman who has been active in Tea Party rallies, said he would like to get about 250 volunteers to circulate recall petitions against Raggio, a Republican who has served in the Senate since 1973. Raggio is in the middle of his final term in the state Senate.

Allen said he believes Raggio misled voters in his 2008 reelection bid when he defeated conservative Republican Sharron Angle in the GOP primary.
Raggio was quoted as saying: This is not the time to start talking about raising taxes. It is something we cant even consider.
Allen said Raggio, who later voted for a $780 million tax increase to fund the 2009-2011 budget, would not have won the primary if not for his verbal no taxes pledge.

Good ole GOP. If they can’t win they want to make sure they hold on to power.
Angle vs the Establishment. A benefit.
He’s long in the tooth and he’s an establishment type.
If nothing else happens in this election, we must acknowledge that enemies to conservatism are firmly entrenched inside the GOP. Funds should never go to the GOP national committee, but directly to specific, good candidates.
“I dont want someone who is effective. I want someone who will say no to the Obama agenda.”
Apparently the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the largest newspaper in Nevada, agrees with you.
Go to Hell Bill.
I would take someone who is “ineffective” over someone who is totally antagonistic to everything I believe in.
G.D. Spradlin played the role of Senator Pat Geary in the Godfather Part II and if a remake was made today, Harry Reid would be the perfect choice for this character. He wouldn’t even have to ACT.
These are the kind of guys who the left is right about when they say the Republicans are “the party of the rich”. Totally unprincipled..looking only to line their pockets and get re-elected.
BTTT
What Raggio has done here is despicable.
Next thing you’ll see is Sheila Leslie come out against Sharron.
So, he’s upset that she’s supposedly “ineffective”, but is fine with Reid’s effectiveness in passing policies harmful to the country.
Being ineffective is better than being effective in doing the wrong things.
