Something Happening in Rangel’s District?
Human Events ^ | 10/06/2010 | by John Gizzi

Even with as impressive a Republican nominee as former New York Jets football player Michel Faulkner and all the ethical clouds looming over embattled Rep. Charles Rangel (D.-N.Y.), the chances of Rangel somehow losing to re-election in the 15th District lie closer to “none” than “slim.”

And that is why, incredible as it may seem, there have been recent developments and publicity pointing to Faulkner as a contender to keep one’s eye on.

This is the celebrated district held by Rangel for 40 years and, before that, by his legendary predecessor and fellow Democrat Adam Clayton Powell since it was created in 1944. Once known as “the Harlem district,” the 15th now includes the upper West Side of Manhattan, East Harlem, Washington Heights, Inwood, and Marble Hill (Bronx). According to the latest registration figures, there are 323,521 registered Democrats in the district, and only 21, 721 registered Republicans.

Pretty discouraging to read about, you say? But read on.

Forget for a moment those registration figures.

With God’s blessing and will; hopefully :D!

(BTW as a disclaimer: Michael F. is also a former faculty at my alma mater: Liberty University; though it was much before I attended the institution).

If he causes charlie to stay home and spend his money on himself instead of playing Santa to other Democrats, Faulkner will have done his job. This is what is happening all over the country. Barney frank’s opponent, the guy running against schumer and the guy running against gerald waddler the mosque democrat are doing a similar service to the cause of freedom.

The most incredible thing in this article was learning that 15/20 times Charlie Rangel has also run on the Republican ballot line! Talk about defining RINO down. Mike Castle was FAR from being the most liberal GOP member. All these years we thought there were no Republicans in the Congressional Black Caucus were mostly wrong. Why haven’t we heard this before? Heck, even the MSM should want to publish this. Whenever reporting Charlie’s ethical lapses they could have written Rangel (R)! I wonder if there are other major party double dippers in Congress... or on the RNC.

In 1970, then State Assemblyman Rangel CHALLENGED Adam Powell in the Democratic primary. In case he lost the primary, he was also given the Republican line, a move engineered by Governor Rockefeller and State Senator Roy Goodman, both liberal Republicans.

Now, RINOS that Rockefeller and Goodman may have been, at the time, because Powell was so corrupt, backing the new, fresh face of Rangel, may have been an appropriate move.
Rocky could not have predicted what a monster Rangel turned out to be.

Anyway, Rangel won that Democratic primary in 1970 against Powell, so he never really needed the Republican line.

Nonetheless, there must have been some unsavory deal between the GOP and Rangel, because until about the early 1990’s, Rangel continued to run with Republican backing.

I remember as a Republican party leader, back then, I HATED having to carry a petition with Rangel’s name on it for Congress! I should have probably refused to do it, but we often had just one petition to use and Rangel’s name was on it along with the candidates for other local offices.
