Mexico today increasingly resembles Colombia 25 years ago. Drug cartels are strengthening rapidly, Mexico's governmental authority and legitimacy are weakening and the people are deeply divided over how to respond to the cartels' challenge to Mexico's civil society. The stakes for the United States were high in Colombia back then, but they are even higher now in Mexico.
The drug cartel threat has already rendered broad areas on our side of the border unsafe. The State Department has ordered dependents in some consular posts to leave Mexico and warned against cross-border travel by land, even in daylight. Central American diplomats have been held hostage. Travel advisories for tourists warn of the growing danger, exemplified by recent tourist kidnappings in Acapulco. Moreover, since criminal gangs are the main distributors of illegal drugs in the United States, there is every reason to fear the violence could infect us in short order...
Mexico is rapidly approaching the stark choice Colombia faced in 2002. And there are disturbing signs that, as in Colombia, many Mexicans prefer appeasement rather than confronting the cartels. They hope, without much evidence, that returning to a "go along get along" strategy with the drug cartels, thereby accepting continued police and judicial corruption, would bring back the deceptive tranquility of earlier times...
Indeed, the administration seems to have no consensus even on the severity of the problem. Last month, Secretary of State Clinton said the truth: that Mexico's drug war was beginning to resemble the violence in Colombia 20 years ago.
Days later, Obama contradicted her - saying "you cannot compare what is happening in Mexico with what happened in Colombia 20 years ago."

I would disagree with one point, Mexico is worse than Columbia ever was! In fact, Mexican cartels have pretty much taken over Columbia.

I’ve always liked Bolton, but I’m liking him more every day.

I have a serious question about the future of these Marxist pols. If this great country is destroyed by them, what do they think will keep them in power? If under the UN global governance, we would be ONE vote vs. 150 plus Muslim countries, including Zimbabwe, who could impose their ignorant, biased will upon the US. In their idiotic Utopian dreams, Obana and comany tear down this "terrible capitalistic country" and then it will be a third world country while China, India, Russia, ignore "green dogma" , continue to mfg. and drill, and become giants like the former US.

You should have seen MSNBC Maddow at a liberal Townhall meeting yesterday. One older lady liberal asked "Don't these Tea party people realize we have to pay taxes for roads?" (Really grandma? Who is we? Obama says only 'the rich' should pay taxes, and many should get 'tax credits' given to them to spend from borrowed money. Idiot. ) . It was interesting to watch how clueless liberals are.
Their future in America should be NONE. They have been laying the groundwork for a socialist government for years and it will take years to weed out the socialist agenda. But, work worth doing. I believe their egos and greed must be huge to think they can make marxism, communism, socialism work when it has NEVER worked in the past. It is folly. Also, this death wish they have about existing side by side with Muslims is ludicrous. The muslim Koran says that if the infidel does not convert to islam they are to be killed. What part of that do these morons not understand. Obama doesn't care because in his heart, he is already a muslim - all he has to do is confess it. America is being led by a Marxist who summons power from the grave of a man he never knew (also a muslim) and writes a book about this man he never knew - how weird is that. Anyway, Soros is the guy who needs to be taken down. He and his buds have been wanting the one world govt. and have been working hard to get it by bringing us to our knees. The perfect storm that happened in 2008 was a wake up call to Americans (all except California which is a total waste). We are going to fight for our country and our constitution because the alternative is NOT an option.
