I can see the Packer fans heads exploding from here!!!!

Vikings once again give Brett Favre the one thing he wanted that the Packers refused to do.

Good, or bad, I don't care as long as the Packer fans hate it!

Signed...a die hard Viking fan stuck smack dab in the middle of Packer country.

I can’t express how happy I am about this deal.

Randy Moss in a pain in the *ss whereever he goes.

It costs them a 3rd round draft pick they’ll need.

In a year, Favre will be gone along with their draft pick, and Moss will be another year older and really stink it up. Thanks Patriots!

Signed,

A Bears’ fan

Nice little O line you have there. Suiting up eight QBs this week?

Moss was especially a pain when he caught what should have been the SB winning catch and thirtysome others just a few short years ago.

The only mistake is that they should had made this trade before game 1.

Bears' O-line stinks and Bears fans know it. -Knew it before the season started.

Yes, Moss was a talented receiver for the Pats. They've clearly dumped him for good value and now your Vikes have his problems. But... Favre is to old, too slow. Moss is the only option and it won't be enough to get you to the SB. Maybe not even the playoffs.

By the way, now Vikings fans are seeing the Bernard Berrian that Bears fans knew so well. We were not unhappy to see him go....

I am a Pats fan, and I sure did like watching him play up here. I was a partial season ticket holder for a while up to this year (can’t afford it) so I got to see him in half the games in 2007. Very entertaining.

The problem was, and most everyone grasped it up here after that 2007 season, is that Moss was too tempting a target for Brady. Having Moss as a weapon brought out the Daryl Lamonica in Brady, and that has never been his strength. Not that he can’t throw the ball 70 yards, because he can. It just isn’t what has made him a Hall of Fame quarterback.

His strength has always been line of scrimmage to 30 yards out. It has always been his bread and butter. Moss has always been a prime threat from 30-70 yards, because it takes that long for him to take advantage of that deceptive speed of his. If you watch, he goes head and head with the defensive backs (usually two) for about 20-30 yards. Then...all of a sudden, those long strides kick in and he is about two arm lengths ahead of the defense, and catches the ball with those long arms.

So, you say, this is great for the Pats! They have receivers from 0-30 yards, and Moss takes the rest. The problem is, the temptation has been too great for Brady. Hey, what quarterback WOULDN’T like to be able to get at least one or two 65 yard strikes a game? “Quien es Mas Macho? Tomas Brady y Ricardo Montalban?”

Brady was doing things that he wasn’t quite as good at, and which deliver at a much lower percentage than that 20 yard pass, and it threw the offensive rhythm slightly out of whack.

(Disclaimer: this is simply my opinion from watching Brady and the Pats offense nearly every game since he became a starter. There are about a gazillion opinions on what was good or bad about the combination of Moss, Brady and the Pat’s offense, mine is just one of many today...:)

So...I will miss Randy Moss. He was as exciting as all get out. Regardless of what many think, I don’t think he took as much time off as some say. I think the Pats will eventually be a better team without him, but given that there is no heir apparent to fill his shoes, well...hey.

And I do disagree very much with his natural inclination to be the center of activity. That is contrary to my way of doing things, but anyone with eyes and ears knew who and what he was, just like we all knew who Obama was before he was elected. But, as a fan, I was willing to go along for the ride and see where it took us. And it was a blast. But, I am a company guy, and I side with the organization. You can’t have more than one top dog in a locker room from a game planning perspective, and we all know who is going to win that one, Randy.

And I definitely sided with the Patriots not giving him a long term contract extension. In this league, at 33 years old, I wouldn’t do it if I were running the team, unless the circumstances were very unusual. And signing Randy Moss to a long term deal (3-4 years) at the money he wanted was as different as saying to a hot looking but very temperamental woman “Let’s go to Aruba” and “Let’s get married”. If he wanted a one year deal at the same money, I would say hell yes! But not a 3-4 year deal.

I wish him all the best with the Vikings, I really do. Just not on Halloween 2010! He could be highly entertaining and individualistic, but in the Patriots organization, that stuck out like a nail sticking out of a board. And we all know what happens to nails sticking out of boards in a fence of smoothly nailed ones.

I missed this thread....

Randy’s production was dropping and the Pats were not going to sign him anyway. Where else was there to go but down?

Moss is dropping passes now with greater frequency and if you look at his numbers over last year and the first 4 games of this year the trend is there. Couple that with opposing DBs stating publicly that Randy takes plays off or outright quits then it’s hard to see the value. Hernandez and Tate have talent and are scared not to play hard. They know their asses can be benched at any time and they fear their coach. Having Tory Holt around might have made this a bit easier to take but it is what it is. I didn’t see them as being Super Bowl ready this year but they will contend for a playoff spot all the while continuing to rebuild and reload with talent.

Question:

Are the Patriots a better offensive team with or without Randy Moss?

Better. No more forcing the ball to Randy to keep him happy. Look at the Jets game as a clear example.

Most of the time, Brady was not forcing the ball into Moss, but rather using him to draw double coverage and create space downfield, stretch the defense and open up throwing lanes underneath for Welker, Gronkowski, Hernandez or Tate. Unless Brandon Tate can now fill that role, a significant dimension to the Patriots' passing offense has disappeared.

Was Moss' production (9 catches/139 yds./3 TD) down this year? Yes, certainly. During the game against the Jets, Cromartie was in Randy's kitchen all afternoon after taking over from the injured Revis. Half a step slower and a few years older does make a difference in the NFL today. But Randy also makes jaw-dropping catches (end zone - one hand, over his head) that few in the league can make. I'm just not prepared to say that the Patriots are not worse off without him - for now.

Here is an analysis that is rather interesting.

http://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2010/10/06/pff-breakdown-randy-moss-to-the-vikings/

It points to a guy on the downside of his career. Moss is not the future of the club, Hernandez, Gonkowski, Edelman and Tate are. Since the defense is not good enough to win a SB why not sell high on Moss remake the team into something that is a better fit for them? They have a lot of young talent on this team and they need to develop into their full potential. That happens from being on the field, getting their asses kicked and growing from it.
