The wife of US Representative John F. Tierney is poised to plead guilty tomorrow to federal tax charges for managing a bank account that her brother allegedly used to deposit millions of dollars in illegal gambling profits he raked in from an offshore sports betting operation based in Antigua.
Federal prosecutors filed documents that were unsealed today in US District Court in Boston charging Patrice Tierney, 59, who is married to the Salem Democrat, with four counts of aiding and abetting the filing of false tax returns by her brother, Robert Eremian, of St. John's Antigua

“I’m shocked!”
You’re shocked that DC is full of ‘rat crooks...and some reps, too?
What’s shocking to me is that the states are full of this garbage, too.
Hence...all of the deficits that threaten to drown the states.
Unions...
Sorry...that was OT. But pertinent. ;o)
Howie’s description of Tierney: “He’s so lightweight he needs to carry rolls of coins in his pockets so he doesn’t blow away.”
Perhaps some of us can pay a visit to Tierney’s facebook page and leave a little note? You do have to “like” him and then leave your message. I don’t know if un-liking him deletes the message or not.

If it was a Republican, the first words would have been Republican and that Republican would have some been attached at the hip of George W. Bush.
Keep us posted. (Best thing about FR is we get to hear what the locals have to say)
Did any of the money go into joint accounts for congressman and wife. Surely her brother shares....Her agreeing to plead quilty stops “discovery”. She’s more involved than what she pleaded to and/or is protecting her husband.
Hudak has been keeping pace with Tierney’s fundraising all year (in truth, more of a testament to Tierney’s surprisingly poor fundraising). I hope that Hudak can come up with an eye-catching ad out of this.
I think that we will pick up MA-10 (with Jeff Perry), and MA-06 is our second likeliest pickup—it is wepl behind MA-10 in likelihood, but our chances just got a lot better.

We have a shot in several MA seats. The open 10th being the best.
There haven’t been more than 2 GOP house members from MA since 1974. So it would awesome to pick off 3.
Tierney is going down. At least until the fraudulent votes come in from Peabody, Salem and Lynn...
then it’s a crapshoot.

Silvio Conti, Margaret Heckler and Paul Cronin, right? Curiously, all three were pro-life, as are Perry and (I believe) the GOP nominees in a couple of other competitive CDs in MA.
Those were the three, yes. Cronin was a moderate (and he had the notoriety of beating John Kerry in 1972, but lost to Paul Tsongas in 1974), Heckler was a liberal/moderate, and Conte was outright left-wing. I can’t recall if Conte was pro-life (of course, Ted Kennedy was pro-life until the ‘70s, too), although he did apparently vote against DC funding for abortions in the late ‘80s.
Yeah those are the 3. Go to back to 72 and also you also had Hastings Keith in the 10th and Frank Morse instead of Cronin. Rats have had majority of seats since 1959. Last GOP majority was during the 83rd Congress. (in between it was a 7-7 tie)
I think you mentioned before that Conte and Heckler were (”are” in the still living Heckler’s case) pro-life, that’s curious indeed, I never would have guessed either of them would be.
Was Joe Martin the last out and out conservative?
Conte and Heckler were renown liberals (especially Conte), but both were pro-life, and voted that way throughout their congressional careers:
Conte’s abortion-related votes:
Heckler’s abortion-related votes:
Cronin was pro-life as well:
I don’t know how Conservative Martin’s record was. One I do know about was the legendary Laurence Curtis, who was considered an unapologetic Conservative. The legislature deliberately wiped his seat out in 1962 after 10 years in Congress, and he tried 4 more times to get back to Congress (he ran against George Lodge to face off against Ted Kennedy (where he lost by only 45-55% in the primary despite having the establishment against him). He ran in the 3rd against Philip Philbin in 1968, in the 9th against Louise Day Hicks in 1970, and in the 4th in 1972 (which was the 3rd previously, losing in the primary to a RINO, liberal Jewish State Rep. Martin Linsky, who almost beat Father Drinan in the general. One Avi Nelson was also in the primary, and he nearly beat Ed Brooke in the ‘78 GOP primary)).
