Is there an emerging Palin-Steele alliance?

Are Sarah Palin and Michael Steele an item?

Not romantically, of course. But Palin’s conspicuous support for the embattled RNC chairman in recent weeks has a lot of Republican heads turning.

First, she appeared on a RNC fundraising mailer in July. Then she gave a shout-out to Steele on Fox News, painting him as more in tune with the conservative base than other members of the GOP establishment. “More power to Michael Steele,” she said.

Then, the RNC announced Palin would be headlining two fundraising “rallies” with Steele in October.

Meanwhile, Steele has made several overtures to conservatives, including warmly embracing Delaware Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell when the rest of the GOP establishment was still bellyaching over what some believe is a lost Senate seat.

Steele has also praised Tea Party activists on his national “Fire Pelosi” bus tour. At the launch event for the bus tour were two Tea Party favorites: Reps. Michelle Bachmann of Minnesota and Joe Wilson of South Carolina.

What makes Steele’s recent veer to the right surprising is that he has long-faced ideological criticism from conservatives during his tenure as RNC chair. For instance, Steele fought a push by RNC members to call President Obama a “socialist,” once referred to abortion as an “individual choice” and expressed doubts about whether the war in Afghanistan is winnable, all of which provoked rebukes from parts of the conservative establishment.

But to complicate matters further, the Washington Times reported that Palin only agreed to raise money for the RNC in return for the RNC paying hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of Palin’s legal expenses dating back to the 2008 campaign.

So what’s really going on?

With any luck, she will replace him come November.

If Steele were an honorable Japanese gentleman, he would have long ago committed ritual seppuku.

But, sadly, he is not.

And so he has not.

The MSM have declared Sarah politically ‘dead’ many times but she just keeps moving forward. Her instincts are good and it'll be interesting to see what she does next.

I hope so too, but she may instead just be propping him up to continue on well into the future. Boehner, Steal, Cornyn, McConnell have ALL failed, and none of them should keep their leadership positions past November.

(preparing to kick in teeth)

Look, the deal is Mr. Steele is a very polite guy who has a softspoken style.

Sarah Palin likes the strong silent type, obviously, but that kind of lady always appreciates the polite type too.

I think by now Mr. Steele has learned to not give the Leftwingtards personal interviews since they will take anything he says and interpret it to discredit him and Republicans in general.

Regarding any legal costs she may have incurred since being picked as the VP candidate, the party owes that to her. She'd had none of that nonsense except for that candidacy.

I suspect Mr. Steele will move on to a position in the Palin organization and she'll turn the selection of the next RNC Chairman over to the committee members ~ which is as it should be ~ BUT, no gays anymore, or Mitbots, or Bushbots for that matter.

We've had enough trouble with that and no matter how much bellering and meowing you people do crying and carrying on to get another gay RNC Chairman, it ain't gonna' work.

The party needs to learn to run with a "straight" image.

Let’s concentrate on firing Pelosi and Reid in November. After that, we fire Steele.

You got that right. But alas, the GOP will be successful, and Steele, through no fault of his own, will be kept on.

Maes is, after all, the Republican party candidate.

That's how it's supposed to work.

Frankly, we went through this cr*p with the Goldwater candidacy, and it took us 18 years to rebuild our position in the Republican party so we could run a Conservative.

The party either goes with its candidates or it crashes and burns ~ and always to our distress, not that of the folks who decide to take a walk and tut tut a lot.

I'd say that if you people can't get Maes to drop out, stuff it. Colorado continues to be politically disturbed, like it has been for the last 75 years. Ain't nothin' new in that.

Ron Paul or Romney would be a good replacement.

Gov. Palin is running for President.
