Or perhaps not so stunning, since Jim Oberstar has lived for almost 50 years in Washington DC rather than Minnesotas 8th CD. The working-class, union, and most importantly pro-life district in the northeastern part of the state has sent Oberstar to Congress for eighteen terms, and previous to that, Oberstar worked on Capitol Hill as a staffer since the Kennedy administration. A new internal poll for Republican challenger Chip Cravaack puts the former Navy pilot and instructor into a virtual dead heat for the seat and shows the voters in MN-08 ready for a change.

When the people of Minny get a load of what is happening here in the west and southwest they will flip to their American roots and go traditional.... enough of the north lib stuff... this aint Canada anymore!
Here's what was big on the radio back in the year he first took office:

No Woman, No Cry; Bob Marley and the Wailers

Love American Style (theme song by The Cowsills) was cancelled this year.
Room 222 (very catchy theme song by Jerry Goldsmith in 14/8 time, counted out as 3-3-2-2-2-2, thereby embedding part of the name of the show in the theme song's time signature) was cancelled this year.
The F.B.I. with all those Ford cars was cancelled this year.
Richard Nixon, who with all his faults definitely loved America and wanted it to succeed, was cancelled this year.
I know you are trying to drive home how long ago that was but all those things seem like yesterday to me.
You'n me both, my FRiend.
I was thinking the same thing. Oh, well.
Dittos.
I mean it’s like the Twins are the best team in Baseball, wasn’t it just yesterday they won the world series?
That is how short of a time it was when I was a young man in the military and learned that Oberstar won his first election as United States Congressman.
The Iron Range has been Democrat since WWII. This would be huge.
Is there a scheduled debate? Oberstar will look old and tired next to Chip
Yes, October 19th.
From the DNT:
For the second time, a candidate forum featuring 8th Congressional District fixture Jim Oberstar and Republican challenger Chip Cravaack has had to be rescheduled to accommodate a rapidly growing crowd.
The Oct. 19 event, sponsored by the News Tribune and the Duluth Area Chamber of Commerce, is scheduled now for 8 a.m. at the auditorium at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center.
Thanks..I assume you’re going to watch it...possibly you should do a blog on it, or better, a live thread..possibly C-span will show it.
I’ll get excited when I hear that CA-17 is in play.
I just came back from the iron range yesterday. There are
at least five times as many Cravaack signs along the highway
and on the back roads. Chip is the real thing.
Also, I noticed many more Emmer for governor signs than for
nutjob Dayton.
(P.S. I think conservatives and Republicans are underpolling this year, as usual. I'm thinking this November could be big, really big.)
