Big-name companies to help colleges train workers (to flip hamburgers)

As the White House stages a first-of-its-kind community college summit Tuesday, the Obama administration is proposing that stronger partnerships between two-year public colleges and big-name U.S. employers such as McDonald's and The Gap will help better match workers with jobs during the economic recovery and beyond.

Community college officials welcomed the new initiative, "Skills for America's Future."

But it's unclear whether the project will help meet Obama's education goals. Community colleges are short of cash, jammed with laid-off workers and students who in better times would attend four-year schools and spending heavily on remedial education for students ill-prepared for college.

For years, community colleges have worked with local employers to identify employment needs and train for them. But most efforts have stayed local, or been limited to pilot programs.

"These employers are well known and very important employers and this is being done at a national level," said Thomas Bailey, director of the Community College Research Center at Columbia University's Teachers College. "It's not at the local, local level where people don't see it every much."

Obama has set a goal of 5 million more community college graduates and certificate-holders by 2020, part of broader push for the U.S. to again lead the world in number of college graduates.

If we give thousands a worthless degree and a big student loan to pay back, then we'll lead the world in the number of college graduates

” .. Obama administration is proposing that stronger partnerships between two-year public colleges and big-name U.S. employers such as McDonald’s “

they just don’t get it, unlike the politician, young adults shouldn’t want to pay $100,000.00 for a $17,000.00 a year job

Rosalie Safier considers herself the beneficiary of a public-private work force development partnership that worked. Her family's business, National Van Equipment of Long Island City, N.Y., started in 1922 and mostly manufactures blankets for the moving industry using textile remnants, including stuffing made of old blue jeans.

Gee, It's a good thing she got an education so she could work at the family rag factory.

What a pitiful article! This is nothing more than a payoff for teachers and so called academia.

President Obama’s Department of Education, where Secretary Arne Duncan appointed a longtime homosexual activist who was part of the sometimes-violent Act Up organization to head his “safe schools” office, now is proposing to force colleges and universities to submit to a political agenda, according to critics.

Under the proposed federal rule change, institutions of higher education “would be required to have a document of state approval … to operate an educational program, including programs leading to a degree or certificate,” explained an analysis by Shapri D. LoMaglio for the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities.

“I think it is the greatest threat to academic freedom in our lifetime,” former Sen. Bill Armstrong, now president of Colorado Christian University, told WND. “But only if you love liberty.” ....

Yes it does sound like a good thing:

“As a result, Safier said she expanded her distribution area and diversified her product line to include custom quilted covers and sound-absorption blankets that muffle things like loud band practices. She said the company has added five employees to grow to 23 employees and has experienced big sales growth”

Whatever happened to Trade Schools? Wasn’t this their “mission” to teach skills to people who were not “college material?”

Communism, Marxism, Nazism, they are all taught in schools

Capitalism is lived and worked, essentialy, with some feminine clinical brief/debrief aspects of it.

The formers are based on tribalistic political hubris and single tribe world, while the latter remove or gentlemanize the tribalistic and replace it with high spirits and cooperation.

Zero needs not tell how the terms of partnership will be, because those who do capitalism know how to partner with worthy partners already. This is all “solutions” he brings about that were either given as ideas to him by capitalists and which are sadly being twisted around to bring the government grab your money nose into it.

The business makes a useful product, don’t disparage it, she needs the education to deal with all the crap the government throws at a small business, they act as if it is a danger to the community and needs to be harassed out of existence.
