Fake Arizona Taxpayers Association Puts Up Dishonest Signs Opposing Propositions
Intellectual Conservative ^ | September 28, 2020 | Rachel Alexander

A former Arizona Democrat Party chairman and a union boss are behind a sham taxpayers group that urges a no vote on all Arizona propositions, including Prop. 107 which would ban race and gender preferences. In reality, most taxpayer groups support voting yes on most of the propositions.

There is a deceitful effort underway by the opponents of several Arizona ballot propositions. It is being run by a sham organization calling itself "Arizona Taxpayers Association." This front group is putting up bright red signs across Arizona that say "Vote No on All Ballot Propositions" and "Vote No on Propositions 106, 107, 113, 301 and 302." They also say "Protect our Constitution." A quick google search reveals virtually nothing about this organization. It has no history as a legitimate taxpayer watchdog organization. Yet prominently displayed on the signs is the notice, "Paid for by Arizona Taxpayers Association."

A google search for "Arizona Taxpayers Association" reveals that the organization is owned by Democrat activist Bob Grossfield and union leader Jim McLaughlin - no taxpayer activists. They usually come down on the other side of issues taxpayer activists care about. The address printed on the signs is 2600 N. Central, Phoenix, AZ. The address listed for the organization at the Corporation Commission is a little different, 2800 N. Central, Phoenix, AZ, Suite 1200. That Suite is owned by the consulting firm of former Arizona Democrat Party chairman Sam Coppersmith, who runs the blog liberaldesert.blogspot.com. One wonders whether the incorrect address was purposely placed on the sign in order to further hide the identities of who is behind the fake organization.

A union label is printed on the signs, UFCW 99. McLaughlin happens to be the president of that union. In an incredible case of irony, McLaughlin has posted an article, "Truth and Lies," on the UFCW 99's president's page, warning people about signs pretending to be what they are not. He writes, "The people of Arizona deserve protection against those who would deceive them with outrageous lies and misleading claims."

In reality, McLaughlin and his Democrat Party activist friends are the ones using "outrageous lies and misleading claims" to fool voters. They know they can't win on the substance of many of these ballot propositions, so they resort to pretending to be a fake organization on the right and spreading misinformation. I am appalled by the unscrupulous tactics I have seen used to try and defeat ballot propositions like Proposition 107, which would ban affirmative action. Politics should be about healthy substantive debate, not deception and false information. This group needs to be called out for what it is doing.

Pretending to be a fiscally conservative organization interested in the Constitution is a cheap attempt at appealing to the Tea Parties. In reality, the Tea Party and Taxpayer watchdog organizations I have spoken with support most of these propositions, including Proposition 107. Do not be fooled by this disinformation campaign. Proposition 107 protects our Constitution by ensuring that everyone receives equal treatment by the government. In addition, it protects the interests of taxpayers by eliminating costly preferences. For example, the City of Tucson gives a seven percent bid advantage to women and minorities bidding on government contracts - resulting in a cost to taxpayers of up to seven percent more for contracts. Proposition 107 would eliminate that unfair and costly preference.

Questions remain about this sham organization. Who is funding it? What are they hiding? If they have gone to such lengths so far to hide their identities, it is safe to assume there is a reason why. The taxpayers of Arizona deserve answers.

I am sure that similar fraud is being perpetrated by the union thugs and their handlers, the 'Rats, here in California.

Totally incoherent TV commercials are airing here with arguments and assertions totally unrelated to the propositions. Often attacking a previous elected official from 2007!

Hello?

Sure, California voters are particularly stupid, perhaps insane, but these commercials have ZERO effect on normal people who are bearing the brunt of union criminality and an unconstitutional president and House of Perps...

I hope it doesn't work.

You never can tell here in AZ.

The voters here are so stupid this year they voted to increase sales taxes on themselves (yes, even the poor will pay that sales tax hike), and the registered Republicans voted overwhelmingly for McCain in our GOP Senate Primary.

Truly! And in Vail, with property values plummeting, the schools are using taxpayer dollars to send out newletters supporting ANOTHER tax increase - for the children of course!

I wish just once they would be honest - “Pass 404 for the teachers union!” Or, “Just because you’re having a bad year, why should I suffer? Yes on 404!”
