Since 1950, Americans with household help have been required to pay Social Security and Medicare taxes for workers earning more than $50 in a calendar quarter (plus unemployment insurance for workers earning $1,000). For many years, compliance was difficult and time consuming and, for the IRS, enforcement was a low priority. In 1986, new immigration laws made it illegal to hire undocumented immigrants, even in private homes. Both laws were widely disregarded.
So obscure was the tax regulation and so common the hiring violation that neither the Clinton transition team nor the Senate Judiciary Committee that would confirm her (and where I was a staff member at the time) had asked in the vetting process whether the nominee had complied with either requirement. The result was the first political defeat of Clinton's day-old administration and a blow for working mothers and their children's caregivers all over America.
Public awareness of and compliance with these legal requirements increased dramatically in 1993 when yet to be inaugurated President Clinton nominated a woman named Zoe Baird to be attorney general (she would have been the first woman to ever hold the office). Like many working women, the nominee had a foreign-born babysitter. Her nanny's husband drove her children to school, sports and other activities. Unfortunately, Baird paid the couple off the books and ignored their undocumented immigration status.

How do ya like those trusted, hard working illegal aliens now?
lol....
That is a good observation.
I wonder if MSNBC has made her an anchor yet.
Most super wealthy people know there is a real chance of people wanting to kidnap them, their kids, husband or relatives, for big time ransom....The extreme wealthy have people on their staffs who are there to screen people for safety issues. This is no secret.
Most super wealthy have will have their own security people conduct background investigations for just this reason, to screen potential threats etc....Trusting one of these illegal alien clearing houses, better known as employment agencies is pretty naive for someone worth billions.
I'm really surprised this illegal alien just waltzed into this billionaires home....
I would guess this might indicate issues with Megs judgment and put her decision making process into question.
Like I said in post #9, I'm guessing the maid's plan was to stall the SS# issue for as long as possible, then threaten to implicate her employers if the problem didn't go away, unless they paid her off enough for her to disappear to Mexico.
That really takes some NERVE, but I am seeing more and more of this attitude from my front-row seat living in Los Angeles. The illegals are taking everything that isn’t nailed down and thensome. They are here to clean up alright.
lol
you watch to much TV.
Give the Meg trashing a rest.
You’ve been trashing Meg here before too.
An employment agency was used and the illegal used her sister’s SS #.
Its a housekeeping not CIA agent.
She was hired in the San Jose area during the height of the dot .com labor crisis in the Bay area.
When shown a CDL and a Social Security card with the same name, you do realize a bank would allow you to take money from an account with the same name?
You should be ashamed for finding fault with Meg’s decision making. Now if she just took the women’s word, then I would agree with you. But look at the facts again.
What is the supposed gain from hiring the illegal alien. Most of the time people who hire illegal domestics, gardeners, carpenters etc. do so to avoid taxes and underpay their staff. Allred admitted taxes were paid, and the maid made $23 per hour. Why would Meg do this unless she wanted to be on the up and up.
Infuriating how our country is being abused by these scumbags and human rubbish.
You are right.....she will be their poster child and if that does not work she clean their offices....

Let me guess Tex, you don't believe the super wealthy, in fact billionaires like Whitman don't have layered security for the safety of themselves, family and even their co-workers?
It may come as a shock to you, even people worth much less then Whitman, spend *millions* on security...
I am confident most others in Texas are not as naive as you.
rats are just using her, when they are done - she will be a cindy sheehan
Meg paid her
Here is something to chew on: http://www.sandiegoreader.com/news/2010/sep/22/under-the-radar-1/
Isn’t it true that the maid worked for an agency? Did Whitman pay her directly or through the agency?
Were the checks made out to the maid or to a cleaning service and did Whitman fire her directly or let the contractor do it if one was involved?
At their next debate, Meg Whitman should walk over to Jerry Brown with a pair of handcuffs and say, “You’re still Attorney General, Jerry, if you think I knowingly hired an illegal, why don’t you arrest me?”
