The Home Stretch
America Talks ^ | 10/3/10 | David Zublick

With less than one month left before the November midterm elections, it is incumbent upon conservatives to remember that nothing is certain.

There has been a lot of talk in recent weeks of an overwhelming victory for Republicans. The House is certain to be taken back, so it is said, and there are even whispers that the Senate may also be in play.

Barack Obama in recent days has been on the campaign trail, trying to rekindle the magic that helped propel him to victory in 2008, as he stumps for desperate Democrats who may be on the verge of being unseated. The economy is currently tanking. Unemployment is near ten percent. The majority of Americans are opposed to Obama's health care plan.

None of the Democrats are running on their accomplishments. Not one incumbent is touting the fact that they supported Obamacare. The silence is deafening when it comes to how well the 800 billion dollar stimulus package is working. The American people are fed up. Their patience has come to a grinding halt. They see their nation being taken down the wrong path. A path toward socialism. And that is the last thing that they want.

The election of 2008 was a referendum on George W. Bush. Conservatives were angry that Bush was fiscally irresponsible. Although he had protected the country from further terrorist attacks subsequent to 9-11, the economy under his watch had deteriorated. And the war in Iraq was unpopular even to those that had initially supported it.

When Obama began preaching his message of hope and change, an electorate that had grown weary of Bush were listening. But they were paying more attention to the sizzle, not the steak. If they had paid close attention, they would have heard him lay out his plans to fundamentally transform the country through the redistribution of wealth. They would have heard him say that we are a nation that has become dismissive and derisive and should be apologizing for it. And they would have heard him say that our health care system needed to be overhauled in such a way that would give the government, not the people and their doctors, more control over it.

Obama also promised an administration that would be accountable and transparent. Promises were made that every bill coming across his desk would be put online for all to see.

Didn't happen.

The midterm elections of 2010 are a referendum on Barack Obama. Even though he is not up for reelection for two years, it is his policies that are driving forces like the Tea Party to put a stop to his agenda. The only way to do that, is to replace the liberals in Washington with candidates who will, if elected, cut government spending, cut taxes, repeal Obamacare, and govern under Constitutional principles.

Admittedly, for conservatives it is looking very good right now. Most polls seem to indicate that Democrats are in for crushing defeats next month. But if Republicans hope to win decisively on November 2nd, they must remain vigilant.

First, they need to band together and support the Tea Party. Establishment Republicans must stop their sniping over candidates such as Christine O'Donnell. They need to understand that Americans consider RINOs like Mike Castle to be just as dangerous to the future of this country as leftists such as Chris Coons.

Second, they must not themselves be dismissive of Democrats. Being overconfident could backfire, especially as we approach the final days of the campaign. The left is going heavy on attack ads, portraying the Republicans as elitists, and the Tea Party as extremist. Many of these ads will be filled with lies and distortions. (Witness the ad Alan Grayon (D) of Florida is running against his rival Dan Webster (R). Even the liberal cable news network MSNBC took Grayson to task on the distorted "Taliban Dan" ad.) Although it is much easier to fact check and ferret out the truth regarding these ads thanks to the Internet, there are still those who can't or won't take the time to do their homework, and base their vote solely on what they see, hear or read from the mainstream media. And in an election year that will rely heavily on independents as well as conservatives, it is crucial that Republicans be on guard for the "October Surprise", and the smears that will most certainly follow.

We are in the home stretch. There is a tremendous opportunity to reclaim the country and return it to what the founding fathers intended. But we need to be very careful if those that will help to restore the nation are to cross the finish line.

it is incumbent upon conservatives to remember that nothing is certain.

Nothing is certain when your opponent has a history of voter fraud, voter intimidation and election stealing.

Congress flat-out ignored its constituents on many issues such as the stimulus packages and Obamacare.

I hope and pray that they pay dearly for that in November.

Ours is supposed to be a representative government. It's high time those gangsters in Congress were reminded of that.

Now is certainly NOT the time to coast like we are in “the home stretch”.
Talk to everyone you meet about WHY the democrat position is not good;
talk to your friends, neighbors, family, coworkers; waitresses; and shopkeepers;
talk about taxes, socialism, the constitution, and the failure of the democrats.
Push the wave.

Many elections will be stolen this year once the left gets into high gear.

Stay away from the cemetaries election day - large crowds of democrat voters will coming and going all day.
