2- This reminds me a bit of Ice Nine, exploring phases of materials which have surprising properties... and in the case of Ice Nine, consequences. One of the theings that bothered me about that story is that he never seems to take into account that we are mostly bags of water when you get right down to it.

Any investors out there might consider investing in aluminum mines. This is huge! And it will revolutionize car fuel efficiency. Might watch for that, and oil might eventually go down.

Oil is used in paint, medical equipment, every computer ever made, virtually every product in your house was made with some oil derivative or delivered by oil.
Now go out to the entire world and what they need by either products, services or delivery of said.
Won’t go down.
Look at cigarettes, have they gone down? The largest profiteer of smoking today is the government.

PM is a fantasy notion of idiots. BUT, if soemthing were discovered that allowed large scale things like people to tap into the quantum foam, THEN the illusion of PM would be obtainable ... like some teslaesque device which outputs current without motion dependency upon chemical reactions. or gravitic deflection. We are already traveling through spacetime at an incredible 500,000+ MPH just sitting in a chair on my porch. Vector against any one of the motion vectors and you generate huge energy potential.

I said iron specifically because it is more likely it could be combined in a non-steel alloy that would be much stronger than steel.
Steel is a combination of iron, carbon, and sometimes manganese, chromium, vanadium, and tungsten. It is unlikely that it could be made stronger in a similar compression process with these type blends of elements.
But iron is very versatile as an element.
