Is the abrupt withdrawal of Tim Cahill's running mate and his endorsement of Charlie Baker the beginning of the end for the Cahill campaign?

Yes, even if he chooses to continue forward.

It's not that Paul Loscocco was such a valuable player on that campaign, quite the contrary.

But he was Cahill's hand-picked choice, just as John Weaver was his pick for chief consultant.

Now, in the space of a week, both men have abandoned Cahill citing the same reasons - he can't win, and all he can do is help get Deval Patrick re-elected.

That theme has been gaining momentum for months now, percolating up through the talk radio grapevine, bolstered by sagging Cahill poll numbers.

Watch for it to boil over in the coming days.

For Charlie Baker, this news is manna from heaven.

His path to victory involves consolidating support from everyone who is dissatisfied with Patrick's performance.

He is likely to pick up much of the Cahill vote if he fades into irrelevance, and seeing them go to Baker could help move undecided voters toward him as well.

And for Governor Patrick, this is a crucial moment.

He must move quickly to try to appeal to Cahill supporters who may be reluctant to vote Republican, either because they are Yellow Dog Democrats or simply resent what the Republicans did to their pal Tim.

Patrick has to see if he can grab his share of them.

Otherwise, the numbers start to look daunting for his re-election chances.

Cahill is on TV now blasting media for covering Loscocco's resignation. He just words "I am not a quitter" (So did Nixon)

"This isn't about me it's about the people of MA. If it was just about me I'd walk away. I believe it now more than ever." Then attacks both Republicans and Democrats

"Are you saying Baker is behind this?"

"I don't know"

Cahill staying in of course. I figured he’d do this for at least one more week, maybe even stay all the way. Vote for me even though my running mate bailed out! Not sure if he has a replacement. Sir, if you win, will you have to appoint someone else to be lt gov. since Loscocco ran away from you?

WBZ:
>>Adviser John Weaver said he would not help elect “the most liberal candidate in the race” during an interview Thursday with The Associated Press, and that viewpoint was endorsed by former campaign manager Adam Meldrum when he resigned on Friday.

Cahill vowed to carry on his campaign, saying he would rely on longtime political adviser Scott Campbell.

Of course “Governor Tim Cahill” will be as likely to happen as “Governor Jill Stein”

Cahill is an opportunist buffoon
first he tried to run in the Dem primary but was blocked by part bosses so he decides to run as an independent but calimed to still have “Democrat values” as he stated on a radio show up here right when he announced
When Scott Brown won suddenly he was going to be an “Independent with Republican leanings”
oh and where are all the Freepers who thought Cahill was the conservative wonderpup by the way? this guy was a phony when he began this and is now and even bigger one

The fact that his running mate threw in the towel and endorsed Baker, while he remains in the race is telling.

The odds were against him getting the 15 per cent at the convention. He may have been better off fleeing to GOP
and trying to get THAT nomination, though who knows.

Said he fled the party then when he took a Dem ballot in
primary he said “I have some friends in some races I want to help”. Then he and Patrick seemed to tag team against Baker in debates.

Yup: re “Cahill is a conservative wonderpup”

Enjoy those ads you’re hearing on radio for Cahill. After Cahill paid off an outstanding tax bill, he qualified for
govt funds for advertising. WE are paying for those ads.

Dem treasurer leaves party to run for Gov as Independent.
No doubt a straw to help Deval Patrick (D) retain his
office, taking votes away from (R) Charlie Baker. But he’s
still a Dem at heart despite being “independent”. His poll numbers keep going down. Advisors leave. Now his running mate leaves.

Some here not fond of Baker but Deval is a tax-lovin’ fool.
Cahill is getting taxpayer money to run ads and under
state law can keep all kinds of funds “in case he decides to
run again”. So even if he has no chance of winning, the
former Dem (took a Dem ballot in primary) may stay in the
race and keep a Republican (said by some to be a RINO
but much better than Patrick) from winning. IF it turns out to be very close.
