Tim Cahill is now the last guy in the bar. Its way past last call, everyone wants to go home, the bartenders looking at his watch, theyve unplugged the jukebox. But Tim is still perched on his stool, mumbling into his empty glass. He coulda been a contendah.
Its the perfect moment for Cahill to fall on his sword - an extra-rainy Friday afternoon when no one is paying attention to anything but the weather. Dropping out today would spare you a lot of humiliation, Tim. Just have Amy tell everybody youre suspending campaign operations.
But you couldnt pry Tim Cahill out of this fight with the Jaws of Life. Why should he quit? Hes not spending his own money anymore, hes spending ours.
Lets see, hes got $750,000 in matching state funds - Auntie Zeituni bucks. Then theres the Unclaimed Money List advertising, and now the Lottery. He must think the voters are chumps - correction, he knows were fools. After all, this is the same electorate that voted him in back in 2002 because he had some cute kids and a cuter slogan.
Its amazing now to recall that a year ago, Cahill was sounding out Scott Brown about being his running mate. The negotiations didnt get very far - Scott is no fool after all. But that they spoke at all shows how the mighty have fallen - Cahill, I mean, not Brown.
It was pitiful enough that he was reduced to picking ex-state Rep. Paul Loscocco as his running mate. A Republican back-bencher. The guy carried water for Jane Swift, for Gods sake.
And now he slaps Tim in the face, because hes figured out what Tim either refuses to acknowledge.
Listen up, Loscocco, because this is the only time youll ever be compared to Macbeth: Nothing in his (political) life/Became him like the leaving of it.
The flip-flopper from Metrowest threw his candidacy away as twere a careless trifle.
Which is all the Cahill candidacy always has been - a careless trifle. An ego trip by a legend in his own mind.
Tim, I beseech you, call Deval, ask your boss to let you drop out. Youve held up your end of the deal as long as you could. Its getting really embarrassing.
Tim Cahill, how long do you have to stay in this fight before you win the bet?
thanks for posting; figured he’d have a column for tomorrow on this (and maybe it’ll be in print edition of the paper)
but here he is with a web extra. Ping to Howie Carr list!

Turn out the lights, the party’s over
They say that all good things must end
Call it a night, the party’s over.
You never have to worry about finding a sharp stick with Howie on patrol. Cahill is now road kill. Call out the DPW and scrape him off the asphalt.
I travel to Boston often. The most powerful radio station there is conservative (680). There’s also a Rush radio at 1200. These are life savers, because it appears that all the rest on both AM and FM are Spanish.
Boston may have some hope, but I think they’re headed for the great dustbin of socialism. My advice...find Ted’s grave, burn it, blow it up, and pee on what’s left.
Oh, throw Bawny on it before you start step one.
WTKK 96.9 also has some conservative talk.
Radio Free Boston.
Howie is going to be ALLLLLLLLLL over this today, I can’t wait!
