The [Puerto Rico] Police [Department's] K-9 unit and Explosives Division were nowhere to be seen this morning at Colegio Sagrado Corazón in Ponce following an 8:45 AM anonymous call warning of the existence of an explosive device on the school's premises.
The call was received at Police headquarters and the Ponce Region Command Center.
As Officer Gerardo Echevarría with the Ponce Press Office explained, the correct protocol in these cases is to conduct a search of the area and, if a device is found, then the Explosives Unit is called, but no explosive device was found on campus.
During an interview on Univisión today at noon, a sergeant by the name of Santiago, who was at the school, made similar statements.
Israel Rodríguez, assistant to school principal María Serrano, indicated that police officers who went to the location instructed faculty to conduct a joint search throughout the area with police.
The Learn Aid test, which was going to be administered to 6th- to 11th-grade students, was cancelled due to the bomb threat.
The school is located at Obispado Street, in the intersection with Santiago De Los Caballeros Street.
